For those who don't know Aetherius is, for all intensive purposes, Heaven in the Elder Scrolls. It is the dwelling place of the gods as well as the domain of the honored dead.
Having survived past the end of the world prophesy that served as the story of Skyrim, Tamriel has outlived itself. All across the world there is a sense of tiring. Rain fall has dwindled to the point where the old forest have turned to dead wood. Entire provinces are over run with plague. Wildlife has become all the more predatory. As the world slowly dies many feel that all they have left to do is await the end. Others have taken to using magic to combat the "Withering." They've accomplished little more than temporary fixes and at astronomical cost. (Daedra)
Nothing less than an act of the Devin's can save Tamriel now. It's a good thing then that a demigod has come into being. One of the nine devines (you choose them during character creation) came to Mundus a few years ago, and made love to a mortal. The resulting child is of their mortal parent's race ofcourse. After coming of age they find themselves whisked away to Aetherius where Talos himself sends them on a quest to save the dieing world of Tamriel.
As a demigod the player character has the power of "Divinity." Divinity is the ability to break the rules of Mundus. The character gains Divinity in a number of ways. The most obvious method is battle. Divinity can be used for truly amazing things, like creating a rain storm and bringing someone recently dead back to life. Small amounts of Divinity can be used for little things like unlocking doors. You can also do things like enchant a ring so that it can make you permanently invisible.
