Lock In on Target?

Post » Tue Mar 23, 2010 8:56 pm

Is there a way to lock in on a target while in combat on the PC version? I tend to lose my opponent behind me, or hit an ally.

I don't think so. Maybe you could find a mod for it.

Boo. Any tips for how to keep the target in front of me? I'm new to the series and still figuring everything out.

Ok. My suggestion is not getting too close to the opponent. Keep your distance so you have a wider sight-range.

Do you think combat is easier in 1st or 3rd person?

As a high elf apprentice healer, I think just about anything else is going to be easier for your first character.

Oblvion just has no lock on target feature. The good news is that it's as hard for foes to hit you as it is for you to hit them. Summoning a pet when you first start combat will help to keep enemies from attacking you, as will keeping your distance. Making ranged area of effect spells can help you hit your foes but you'll also hit any allies that are close.

You can make clothing enchanted with protective spells to help resist magic and give you some AC.

Good luck!

If you are making ranged attacks, then 1st Person is usually the best, as it is hard to aim in 3rd Person. If you are fighting in melee, then 3rd Person is often best, because you can see both your enemy and yourself. If they try to slip past you, you can turn with them, and never lose sight of them.

I alternate into 3rd person long enough to find my ally, then switch back to first and continue fighting.

Try using Detect Life or a custom spell for Light on Target. It doesnt lock but itll make it easier to find the target.

Haha. Looked pretty good to me . . . what suggestions do you have for stronger combinations of race, birthsign and class?

Assuming you stay with the healer concept, I would advise not bothering to attack when you have allies and instead concentrating on trying to keep them alive (which can be rather difficult in some cases unless you have custom healing spells).

The reason for this is simple: when it comes to battle tactics, NPC allies are utter morons and there is a very high chance that any attack you make will hit one or more of them in the back rather than the intended target since they have the distressing tendency to move into your line of fire instead of staying out of it.

On the other hand, as a healer class you actually want allies, unlike most of us who would gladly kill them off ourselves when possible to save the trouble if it didn't auto-fail the quest.

Man, this is making me debate with myself yet again about making Savlian Matius nonessential and editing the Kvatch scripts... :D

Nothing wrong with that character except for extreme vulnerability to both magicka and any kind of weapon. Oh, and the complete lack of any melee capability.

Keep your distance, using ranged spells. Hot-key healing potions, because you're going to need them. Work on building up Illusion for chameleon, paralyze, and command; you need illusion at a high level to be effective. Sneak everywhere; they can't hit what they can't see.

And run away a lot.

You do not have to play your apprentice altmer like that at all.

Cast alteration elemental shield buffs or buy hands of the atronach and you can totally play melee. You will have the Magicka for it for sure, you could even summon something and double team enemies.

When I first started to play the PS3 version, all I wanted was a lock on target feature because I couldn't aim for good with the controller. Eventually I got better at it and now I think it is good the way it is.
