(Playing on 360 by the way..)

So my character is going through the Fighters Guild questline, and just received the "Master's Son" quest. Well, after learning that Viranus is essential and can't die, I figured, why not bring him along for some little things here and there (and just reaching level 10 and the trolls are kicking my ass at the moment). Well... I keep losing him periodically. He'll be right behind me, then suddenly he's not there, and I'll get a constant bleeping of "Viranus Donton is unconcious" on the top of my screen. I tried fast traveling to a nearby city, which didn't do anything to bring him back. I tried waiting a couple hours, and still nothing. It's like, from what I can imagine, he must be falling through textures, which would explain the constant unconscious note I'm getting.

But I got so frustrated I finally reverted back to the save from before having tagged with him. Guess I'll be waiting a while before attempting that quest.

Has anyone else had this problem, and is there any known fix?
