What if someone wants a DB member dead?

An interesting question is whether she feels obliged to wait until someone else makes the request. The purification of the Sanctuary didn't appear to need any outside trigger, but it's also not clear if this was passed down from the Night Mother, or decided by the Black Hand. Would an individual assassination require it? Are all the hits the player is asked to undertake initiated by the ritual, or are some (Permanent Retirement?) internal to the Brotherhood?

I think it was the Black Hand that decided it, wasn't the Night Mother actually aware of who the traitor was? Atleast it always seemed like it from the dialogue she says, but this is maybe just me interpreting too much into it.

Yep, the Night Mother knew who the traitor was the entire time, and did absolutely nothing to hinder him, or expose him. One DB member killing off the others meant absolutely nothing to her.

I must agree with Savlian. Honor and loyalty are not tenents that the DB or Sithis cling to. Life does not matter to them. Only death. Putting a contract on a DB member is a test of that member's strength. If they are worthy, they will survive. If not, they will die, as the weak deserve to. In the end Sithis gets the blood and death he wants, which is the only thing he wants.

Also something to keep in mind is that when someone sends a prayer to the Night Mother for someone's death, they are visited by Lucien (or whoever) who works out the arrangements with them, including if they actually take the contract at all. People still have pay, the DB is not just in it for fun and games after all, but cold, hard septims as well. During the DB questline we also are told at least once that a contract was almost not accepted. So the idea of them refusing to do a hit is not unusual.
