The Ten Companions fanfic.

Alright so I'm going to write something small based off something which hasn't happened. The 2nd Great War. Yeah it will be from the perspective of a College professor for the fictional Imperial Legion Academy. Years after the 2nd Great War. Also this is my first fanfiction and I had to withdraw from my English class halfway through the semester because of how bad my grade in it was.

Yeah its based off of the Battle of Stamford Bridge also.

Here goes.

Spoiler
The 2nd Great War had been coming to an end, the Dominion warmachine had come to a crash after Skingrad was retaken from the Dominion. The Legion Navy managed to break through the Dominion Navy three months earlier which allowed the amphibious invasion of northern Summerset Isles and the Great Alliance was gaining ground quickly.

A division of the Great Alliance (7th Great Alliance Shock Division), mainly composed of Imperial Legionnaires, Redguard Cavalry, Breton Mages, and Nordic Militia were five miles south of Riverwatch. The 7th Division had been resting for three days to prepare for the invasion of Alinor, the capital of the Aldmeri Dominion. It was 8 AM, 16th of Morning Star. The Redguard cavalrymen were tending to their horses and celebrating The Day of Lights to pray for good fishing and farming for the year, the healers were tending to the wounded while the blacksmiths were mending their armor and weapons from the Battle of Riverwatch a fortnight ago.

The Legion was just finishing breakfast when two Bosmer scouts under service of the Legion came in running as fast as he could in out camp. One of the scouts was carrying his brother on his back who was peppered with arrows and burns from Dominion archers and mages. "Get Erangaer to the healers' camp now! Two divisions of Dominion troops coming from the southeast!"

The Great Alliance's 7th Division was hardly ready for a battle when most of our troops were resting, not expecting battle until a week later when they marched for Alinor. General Tullius in his old age of 70 gave the order to immediately prepare for battle. Dulled swords were wielded and damaged armor sets were utilized as the warriors prepared for battle. The blacksmiths weren't able to repair all of the armor and weapons from the Battle of Riverwatch and they weren't expected to finish their backlog of weapons and armor until four days after and they had half of the number of Dominion divisions they were to engage, the rest of the Great Alliance wasn't expected to rally with the Riverwatch camp until three days after. But nevertheless they had to prepare and fight. They would have to hold the area to make troop and supply movement easier to build up their forces for the march on Alinor.

However, it was too late. The Nordic Militia commander and General Tullius's 2nd in command, Mjoll the Lioness spotted the two divisions the scout had been going on about on the horizon.

"Everyone! Get ready for battle! They're on the horizon, archers, get ready for an arrow barrage, we only have enough arrows for one barrage so make it count! Cavalrymen! Mount your horses, you'll engage the enemy with a cavalry charge to break their line after the arrow barrage." Commander Mjoll and geneal Tullius shouted orders as the lumbering Dominion approached.

There were elements which would give the Alliance time to prepare. A canyon stood between the Dominion troops and Alliance. The Dominion constructed a large stone bridge some 300 years ago and it was the only thing which could allow the Dominion troops to cross over for battle. The bridge could have been destroyed except the bridge would have to be rebuilt for the Alliance, which would have taken too much time to build and enough time for the Dominion to rebuild its forces.

The Dominion could destroy the bridge to give time for their forces to rebuild while Alliance engineers rebuilt the bridge, however the now incompetent Thalmor strategists decided to destroy the 7th Division instead of destroying the bridge for reasons still unknown to this day.

The bridge would have to be held and kept intact.

The 7th Division still needed time to prepare. However, ten Nordic Militiamen who were part of the Companions' Guild in Skyrim had been given special permission by the Harbinger to die honorably in battle. The ten Companions volunteered themselves to hold the bridge by themselves. General Tullius and Commander Mjoll were forced to allow them to initiate their suicide mission.

The ten Companions wielded dual-swords custom built by the finest Skaal blacksmiths and the Carved Skaal Armor they used was durable and light.

As the 7th Division pulled further back to help ease their readiness, the ten Companions stood on the bridge. The Thalmor Wizard in command of the two Dominion divisions was reported to have said "Ten barbaric Nords is the best defense they have for that dilapidated bridge. Pitiful, we'll slaughter them just as we did in Skingrad before they drowned us in their own blood."

The Wizard, whose name, along with the names of the Ten Companions were never recorded during this battle. However, the Wizard would be wrong.

The chants and songs of heroes past sang in the heads of the Ten Companions as the Dominion rushed forward. One by one the elves fell to the ground. Heads were decapitated and bodies were dropped into the canyon as the Companions killed the Dominions waves. One Legion Quaestor observing the skirmish from his spyglass noted.

"The silver armor of the Companions and the golden armor and black robes of the Dominion corpses had been stained completely blood red. The Companions easily slaughtered the elves, our Nordic friends were using their dual swords to their advantage by killing two of the bastards at once. Made me wonder why we don't train our troops for dual swords."

After 30 minutes of continuous fighting the Companions were starting to be exhausted. They suffered horrible wounds as a result of the fighting as the same Quaestor mentioned before noted.

"After 30 minutes it seemed the Companions were starting to slow their massacre. Our forces were just starting to get into fighting condition. I peered through my spyglass and saw a dagger impaled in one of the Companion's thigh, however he was still fighting and the elves were still falling."

After 13 minutes, the Ten Companions were overwhelmed. The Quaestor still noted that even when some of the severely wounded Companions were on the ground, they were still using their daggers to stab the elves and the Companions left on their feet were still swinging their swords and throwing elves down into the canyon.

The Ten companions were broken when the Dominion initiated a shield charge, which broke through the Ten Companions, the Companions were then killed with Sovngarde being their destination.

Thankfully, two regiments of Orcish Berserkers and Redguard Cavalry arrived early. The arrow barrage Commander Mjoll and General Tullius planned had been initiated, the arrows rained down on the Dominion and caused casualties, then the Redguard Cavalry charged and further broke Dominion lines. Then the Orcish Berserkers, Legion Infantry, and Nordic Militia charged and slaughtered the remaining Dominion. Only 14 Dominion troops were able to retreat safely out of two divisions of 20,000 men. If the Ten Companions never held the bridge, the 7th Division would have been done for.

The Battle was over, Healers quickly rushed to the battlefield to tend to the wounded warriors, when a Breton healer got to the bridge, all of the Companions had been dead except for one, the same Companion who the Imperial Quaestor has seen with a dagger impaled in his thigh had now had an elven designed sword impaled through his abdomen.

The Companion simply smiled and said "Sovngarde awaits, our ancestors are smiling upon us today!" The last Companion had succumbed to his wounds. No amount of magic the healer used could bring him back.

The weapons and armor of the Ten Companions are displayed in the White Gold Tower and after Alinor and the Dominion fell pay and reparations for the families of the Great Alliance Warriors was tripled.
