There may be a chance for stuff to survive if stored in museums on display like in Fallout 3 you could find President Lincolns hat and rifle.

Sure lincoln was one of the most famous presidents of all time... His things would be well preserved.... and we're talking a 100 year gap as well between the wars.... Which means the older something is the less likely it is to be found... even without it being a post-apocalyptic wasteland surrounded by raiders and scavengers
