ESO Alliance Leaders: Too far fetched?

Post » Mon Jan 21, 2013 9:21 am

Do you think the leaders of TESO are just too unlikely?

Jorunn is a Nord who never received much training in arms. He prefers to sing.

Ayrenn is an Altmer who adventures, drinks mead, brawls, duels, and sails with pirates.

We don't know much about Emeric yet (since he hasn't had a book yet) but we do know that he's a Breton who's willing to accept the help of Orcs.

A little bit of 'breaking the mold' can be good, overuse is bad.

Do you think the combination of three out of the ordinary leaders is just too much to buy?

I think Jorunn adds some flavor to the role of leading the Nords. Rather than a dumb brute, he's a bard; interesting twist. And he did receive some training in arms: "Though he received little formal schooling in the arts of arms and warfare – as little as a prince of the Nords could manage, anyway – traveling across Tamriel was always a dangerous activity. His travels taught him less orthodox ways of dealing with trouble."

That quotation implies that though he never focused on combat, he certainly knows how to fight, having been trained as much as a prince of the Nords should be. And his "less orthodox ways of dealing with trouble" spice up his style of combat. He's still enough of a fighter to garner the respect of the Nords, and the fact that he's a bard probably gives him some pull for even more potent propaganda than usual. That's clearly evident in his bio book.

I also think that Emeric sounds pretty good thus far. His idealism can be explained by his hobby as an amateur historian, and he likely isn't dealing with the Orcs for their benefit. Maybe, though, as a historian, he looked back to the myths of Orcs once being the followers of Trinimac and thought, "Well, they're not dirty animals. And they're not really elves, not anymore. Maybe I should dazzle them with diplomacy for the sake of a free army."

Ayrenn...I don't have anything good to defend her with. Her situation isn't as bad as people think, but I have nothing to defend her with. And she'll probably be ragged on enough in this thread, so, uh, no comment.
