BRINK Ideas or Suggestions

Post » Wed Mar 24, 2010 3:46 pm

hey all, this thread is for posting ideas, in the hope that if the Devs DO check the forums all of our ideas will be in a centralized place, and we might be able to get some intelligent discussion out of this, and figure out what would work and what wouldnt. I'll kick us off with a couple of ideas that i've thought through, and i think they'd be good for the game:

1.) Tagging The Enemy (Think Bad Company 2) - you press a button, and the person your aiming at lights up red on your team's map and screen, easy to implement, helps encourage teamplay.

2.) Constant Warfare (think MAG) - basically, the Resistance and Security are in a constant war. The background for Multiplayer would be a map of the Ark, and each faction would have "controlled areas". These areas wouldn't affect matches or maps, but it would give the community a reason for choosing their factions and possibly sticking with them longer. Maybe a good idea, not sure yet.
-> A better description of this is: The background screen for the MP is a map of the ark. Resistance is red, Security = blue. Lets say Security is winning, most of the map would be blue. Lets say resistance is winning, most of the map would be red. The way it would be counted would be: Every Tean games or so, whichever faction wins those games, they moce up maybe a centimeter (depending on how big the map is) or it could be like eveyr 100 matches, whichever team wins controls a whole section of territory. Or maybe even it could be like MAG with those little bars that increas every 5 victories for each faction, and when they get to the top the faction takes a whole area of the Ark.

I'll post some more of my ideas later, for now i think that's good.

The Devs are on another forum, this is the publisher's forum. Try Splash Damage's forums if you want the devs to take a look at what you say.

The Constant warfare doesn't really mesh with Brink. Every game you play is part of a storyline, the whole game occurs within a couple of days. Having maps constantly changing hands doesn't make sense when every map has a set storyline, and is a piece of the plot.

The marking ability could be interesting for gameplay. Could be implemented as an operative ability, seems to fit well with the whole interrogation thing, mark someone and your team can see him through walls or on the minimap for a while. But I don't see why you have to stop at enemy players, why not be able to mark anything? Would be helpful in telling people where to go for a plan, or informing them where you're headed. Would be much faster than explaining things, at least in some situations. Implementing it in this fashion could be done with a laser marker attachment for weapons.

So you're thinking of waypoints from MAG? good idea. I think MAG kinda handled them wrong, as only squad leaders could set them, but if everyone could set them it might work well..

I've never played mag, I'm thinking of real world devices, something like a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_designator. Only, instead of directing a bomb, it would be used to make a mark on a minimap, or even an arrow or something in the game. Closest I've see to what I'm thinking of in a game is the ability to click on the minimap in RTS games and have a marker appear an your allies maps. I would just like the ability to point at something, push a button, and tell people to cover that spot, or any other number of times when it would just be easier to point than to explain.

Highlight does sound light an operative interrogation. The laser sight seems similar to a scope on BFBC2. Who says sniper's can't contribute?

Lo and behold, straight from H0RSE's newest compendium, under confirmed operative abilities. - "Homing Beacon – Homing Beacon allows you to place a beacon on an enemy target so his movements may be tracked on the map."

I'm noticing though, nowhere in his compendium does it mention backstabs, I think that sticky bombs are the only way to OHK with the operative, which offers a 5 second window where teammates can remove it to stop you from dieing. Makes sense when you consider that SD wanted to avoid people dieing instantly.

First off, the dev read the forums, but don't post here. They do post on their own forums at SD though.

1) Homing beacon like Shadowcat said

2) Maybe record matches and change the map every day accordingly. The map will have the color of side with the most wins in a certain area.
It's just a gimmick, but it sounds pretty good. It also gives you an overview of which side is "easier" to play on a certain area.

Backstabs have been in previous SD games, so there is hope but you are correct they have not been confirmed. I am still waiting on it.

Maybe some sort of chain of command, with preset orders that can be made on the fly to other members without need for voicing everything. For instance, to hit up on the digital pad may bark orders to proceed to target, or something along those lines.

When you use the command pad to choose what objective you plan to do it shouts it to the rest of your team.

another idea i had was an hours counter. Say your playing with someone, and you go to the menu or scoreboard, and you click on their name. Maybe their player card comes up with their level, their main character that they've played the most as, and possibly the amount of hours that they have played, and possibly even a KDR.

Afaik there will be no detailed statistics in BRINK. Which essentially means, less people play for ther E-peen only.

And there's an automatic "commander" who shouts important things.
"Main objective destroyed" or "We need more Engineers"

@Jordanman13
No KDR statistics. I would like to see "Amount of completed objectives" statistics. Just in general: 1 counter for main objectives, 1 counter for side objectives. I wouldn't mind the hours played counter, maybe even more specific: A counter that counts the hours played as a certain class/bodytype. One last thing is that I'd like to see the main character in front, with all other characters in a V-formation behind him.

It's probably to late now anyways, but I would like to see: SMART being able to do: A Wallrun, A Roll, and a.. What do they call it, if you have played Black Ops, you can hop into prone if you're sprinting, that - Let's call it Prone Jump.

Wallhop is in. Roll is not in, because they didn't want you to be in a canned animation and they want you to be able to shoot at all times.
I think it's called a dolphin dive, but I don't want it in. We have something better: A tackle.

Just spitballin' here, but they should make it so that whoever is the MVP at the moment shows up on a billboard on the map itself, or at least their name. I think that would be cool.

It's called dolpin dive indeed, and I think dolphin dives are awesome. But the tackle-slide will be just as much fun, hopefully. :D
