I miss my doggie!

Post » Wed Jan 23, 2013 3:07 am

Started a second character. This time, I didn't collect Dogmeat right away. I just finished clearing out Minefield, and I'm missing my doggie, who was with me the last time, setting mines off left & right.

The game just doesn't feel right without that dog by my side.

Why are people so obsessed with that dog?
He svcks, plain and simple, he's just one of the worst companions that you will have to look after every single second or he'll die.
He isn't even remotely strong, attacks everything the moment he sees it and is melee at that.
At least in Fallout 1 he had a massive knockdown chance and critical hits work a little more deliciously there.
But in Fallout 3 he is just absolutely awful. So that you miss the dog? That is something I cannot comprehend.

If you had Broken Steel installed, that dog very quickly turned into a freaking tank. He'd gain insane amounts of HP. It was some kind of glitch that affected all the non-humanoid followers in the game.

He was actually very useful when you got to higher levels with BS and you had to fight albino radscorpions every 10 feet. I could just let him chew the things down to very low health and then finish them off with a shotgun blast or two.

The Orginal Dogmeat was is the best Dogmeat. I wish Bethesda thought of another name for that dog in Fallout 3.

They just did it as "fan service" and like all their other acts of fan service, it failed completely.

It is just another example of how Fallout 3 is a slapdash of Fallout and Fallout 2 set in DC.

I know, I also chose the perk Puppies! but I still found him to be useless.
He always blew my cover, always got in the way in firefights and in corridors and his barking was just eardrum piercingly annoying after a while.
Not worth it to me. Never understood the fascination some have for dogs, especially emotionless and robotic pixels on a screen.
Yet some people can't play Fallout 1>New Vegas without getting some damn mutt to follow them around.

*sigh* when oh when are we gonna get something useful?
Like a Nightstalker or a Gecko.
Those I would use.

With BS, Dogmeat is the Dog of Doom and RL-3 is the Robot That Just Won't Die. My neutral character has both, and they have lots of fun together.

Dogmeat isn't really helpful as a companion, it's just having a companion with you while playing that game that did it for me. The rest of the companions in the game svcked.

Fawkes?
Sure he was in the way but at least he was useful in firefights and took most of the damage, acting like a walking tank with a gatling laser.
You picked a dog, which attacks anything on sight and is barely useful at it over a super mutant with a gatling laser?

I don't think I will ever understand why people like Dogmeat/Rex/K-9. :ahhh:

It would be nice if Dogmeat was a man in a dog suit. That would be an entertaining companion.

At least Rex has a quest and a semi-useful perk for scavenging, but Dogmeat was just annoying. With the Puppies! perk he pretty much becomes Pariah.

Cant stand the "dog" companions( for both NV and 3) after my first trip into a vault and they go running off after an enemy behind a wall I wanted to off myself. I couldnt find him/ it and all it did the whole time was either wimper or bark......... SOOOOO FREAKN ANNOYING!!!!!!!

Fawkes was a walking weapon of mass destruction even before Broken Steel. And Cross is OK, as long as you armor and equip her right. Her tag skills are small guns, big guns, and energy weapons. And what does she pack? A super sledge and a laser pistol. I used a glitch to get both of them, and we pancaked everything bad we ran into. By the time we finished, the harsh cruel Capital Wasteland was about as dangerous as a kindergarten classroom.

But both are off-limits to a neutral character. So Dogmeat and RL-3 are my fallback plan. And if I'm evil, I usually go with Jericho. He may be old and have a potty mouth, but he's a reliable and lethal comrade.

I was rather fond of Dogmeat but I do agree.... ED-E is my favorite companion between FO3 and FO:NV. There's so much personality in that little inorganic ball of steel and circuits.

It's just a dog. God forbid if Bethesda tips their hat to the originals for a moment or doesn't make the dog super strong. It was a nice little cliche companion. Sure, got annoying a lot of the time, but it wasn't the worst thing in the world. I like that they put in a slight variety of companions.

Imagine doing The Superhero Gambit with that companion.

EDIT: They should have done it so if you killed one of them, the other could be a companion.

This is the best part about the game. You never know what you have, until its gone. Think of it as a life lesson!
