Ask Us Anything: Daggerfall Covenant Part 2

Post » Wed Jan 23, 2013 6:08 am

I just realized, in the hubbub surrounding the Alliances at War video, this update came and went without any real discussion/henpecking on our part:

http://elderscrollsonline.com/en/news/post/2013/01/18/ask-us-anything-daggerfall-covenant-part-2

Major takeaways:

-The Reachmen will be present in-game, allied with Molag Bal and his minions. No idea how Bal relates, if at all, to the gods of the Witchmen or why they would view the Planemeld as a good thing (unless it's just ZOS assuming that all Daedra worshippers have the same goals and values).

-This is actually the second Daggerfall Covenant, the first being a NATO-esque alliance of mutual security among the lords of the Illiac Bay following an invasion of High Rock by the Reachmen, culminating in a decisive victory for the Bretons at the gates of Daggerfall (which is a nice touch, because it establishes precedent for a united High Rock in the face of external threats).

-There will be plenty of racist Bretons and Redguards toward the Orsimer. Which, I assume, means one token quest where you have to stop a crazed Breton who's been murdering Orcs.

-The Yokudan gods will be present and accounted for. No magical transition to Divines-worship just in time for us to visit? Huzzah!

-There will be more (emphasis theirs) books in TESO than in any previous TES game. No word yet on how many of them will be worthy additions to the series, and how many will be dismissed as "transcription errors" by the fanbase (spoiler alert: ALL OF THEM).

-I was disappointed that they didn't address the biggest lore concern of all, though: the Redguards' http://images.wikia.com/elderscrolls/images/c/ce/Daggerfall_Covenant.jpg

Will the Vampire clans of Daggerfall be returning?

This is my biggest question, really. I'm curious as to whether Zenimax will pay the older games any mind.

Well, Molag Bal's alter was in the reach in Skyrim, though, so was Namira's, and Priytes, so a connection to Molag Bal is somewhat explined via Skyrim in a way.

They danced around this question as they often do.

I just feel they are planting all Daedric influnce to the big big badass Molag Bal. I thought at least some parts of the Reachmen were more Hircine related, considerding the Hagravens and their covens?

Yet I'm glad the Hammerfell part seems fine enough, at least for now, if only they would follow what is presented in the Varieties of Faiths.

And those who from Daggerfall would be more pissed off as Emeric's first major victory was right outside their gates, not those of Wayrest.

As I noted in the TESO forum on this topic, I was most interested in the question about the Yokudan gods. The poster specifically asked if there would be quests relating to the gods. The response said that the priests of the "Redguard Divines" (which answers my irritation at Ayrenn's own "Divines" remark, I suppose; still irritating, but at least it's not necessarily a reference to the Eight) would "have an active presence" in Hammerfell. While we at least found at that the Yokudan gods will be referenced and discussed, this response didn't answer the question. There's no mention of any quests at all, and instead of focusing on the gods, the focus lies on the priests. If there are quests at all, will they focus on the priests and their dealings rather than on the worship of the gods themselves?

Well other than the Daedra, religious quests in the games have been more about aiding the organization rather than the god, so I'm not surprised. The quests we get will probably be simple stuff like recovering a statue of Zeht, rescuing a priest of Tava lost in the desert, etc.

At least it's better than the BAM! EIGHT DIVINES we were worried we'll get.

I'm starting to think "Divines" is just the Mannish word for Aedra and associated et'Ada, which isn't terribly controversial in the end.

As far as I know, we never learned what gods exactly the Forsworn are worshipping. Maybe it was Molag Bal all along. Someone had to build that shrine in Markarth, y'know.

Someone should take a look at the ingame books from previous games and list the ones written before CE583. That'd give us a clear picture of how many new books to expect. Probably tons of propaganda pamplets from all three factions :D

No Sultry Argonian Bard, though. Maybe a Fluffy Khajiiti Weaver...

Why, how else could the hold all those anime-esque weapons properly?

They danced around this question as they often do.

They already said in another interview last year that there will be different vampire clans. No specifics about Daggerfall, though.
