Editing a Mod

Post » Thu Mar 25, 2010 3:15 pm

I'm not sure if I should be posting this here or in the CS forum, so if I'm in the wrong area, I applogize.

Anyways, my question is very simple, and may be something obvious I just don't know anything about, because I have only recently jumped into the Morrowind modding scene.

Basically, I'm trying to edit the attributes of an item, a sword in particular from the Holy King Armor mod. I was trying to change some of its values, mainly changing it from two handed to one handed. However, after editing its values in the CS, when I close out, I am presented an error message, and am not allowed to save my work on the esp. The message I recieve is this:

"Unable to complete operation due to failure renaming temp file. Temp file remains."

Like I said, it may be something simple and I'm just clueless about it, but any help in the proper way to do this would be appreciated.

What OS are you using? Win 7?

I think I've seen others report things like this, and basically there are various problems with Morrowind when it is installed under "Program Files", you can either re-install it outside of Program Files or try running as admin, http://www.yacoby.net/es/forum/9/6446721165780680.html to read about it.

Well, I'm operating on Windows 7...I suppose I can try to move the morrowind folder elsewhere outside of the programs file...not too sure that will help though.

Check if you can do it when ran as administrator, first. Right click the construction set and select "run as administrator".

If that works, you'll want to set it up to always be ran as administrator normall, when clicked, here's the steps:

  • Right Click
  • Properties
  • Compatability
  • Under "Privilege Level", check "run this program as an administrator".

You'll want to do that with a variety of programs. For example, i need to do it for MGE to work. Personally, I've never had problems with the CS. I never even opened it as an administrator before now.

Sounds like a UAC issue...Windows isn't allowing the CS to rename (or, most likely, save any changes to) the .esp file. One of the many joys of UAC. :brokencomputer: If moving MW outside of your Program Files folder doesn't fix it, try disabling UAC (temporarily, if you really feel the dire need to have it on) and saving the edited .esp again.
