Brink Online Splitscreen

Post » Fri Mar 26, 2010 3:20 pm

I have a question/Idea for the 360 version (Ps3 too). I know split-screen multiplayer online for 2 players (One guest account) is hard to do. But couldn't you just have different 'settings' so to speak for online split-screen?

Everyone says split-screen would come at a cost, i.e shaving away parts of the game making it less enjoyable. But what if the single player offline and the non split-screen online multiplayer were separate from the 2-player split-screen online multiplayer? (In terms of graphics/settings not game play)

So single player would still be the way it is intended.
Playing by yourself in online multiplayer (one to a console) would still be the way it is intended. So nothing changes for those 2 modes.

But then have the split-screen separate. I mean the PC version (should) already have the capability to choose game settings right? I.e Models, Textures, draw distance, Shadows, water etc... Low, medium, high, very high etc... So incorporate that for the 2P split-screen online multiplayer for the 360. I don't mean give players the option to fiddle with settings.

Just have 2P Split-screen online multi 'settings' set lower than 1p multi, to allow for the split-screen. Yeah the graphics wouldn't be as good, but single player and other people playing online (one to a console) would remain unaffected.

So that way it would give people the 'option' to choose to have a guest play at the expense of lower settings. But the people who don't choose to have a guest play can remain unaffected.

Just an Idea.

Devs have said no splitscreen at all, for sure. Interesting ideas, but when there isn't even going to be splitscreen offline, its kinda a mute point to discuss ideas for splitscreen online.

I know there is no split-screen. I didn't actually ask if there was. But that doesn't stop me from wanting it. Especially since almost every xbox live only game has died in around about a year, even less. (Died as In almost never an online game session) (please don't give examples like halo 3/reach, I said almost :P). Brink looks good and I don't want to see the same thing happen, just guest accounts (any kind of local/online one console multiplayer) extends the life of games so much.

Meh I just think it'd be cool to have, and I wouldn't wait for it to be cheaper if it did.

If the game is good it shouldn't be a problem. Or as you pointed out a ridiciously huge fanbase. Or something like 10th prestige that are ways of keeping you playing for awhile.

I guess I'm just used to it. I grew up with every game being local multiplayer. Getting friends round, and parting, gaming. So now when I look for a game the first thing I look for is some kind of split-screen multiplayer. If Brink did have it Id probably pre-order, but without it, I would Hire it out first, see if I like it etc.. I mean seriously when your paying $100-120 here in Australia for new games. Gotta be sure.

This was the way I was when I was younger but now that we are older its a lot harder to get everyone around one tv. Life, jobs, schools and everything else. It's hard enough to get people online at the same time. Sorry that games in Aussie are so expensive

The fact that you want split-screen means you're probably planning on getting it for console, which only accept games from the proper region, but is there anything stopping you from buying the American PC game and getting it shipped down to AU?

If I lived in AU, I would probably get a north american Xbox in the first place.

Well I know besides the inflated prices Aussies get late releases and lots of games band. Conversely get a job with the Escapist like Yatzhee and they will buy your games for you.

Who will, of course, still rant about the prices anyway. Right before he taunts his viewers by pointing out that he gets all his games for free now.
