Disabling background music on PC

Post » Sat Mar 27, 2010 12:46 am

Is there a way to disable the background music completely using the .ini file?

It was possible to do with Oblivion, and resulted in a signifact performance boost, but I can't find a way to do it with Fallout 3

Thanks

You don't have to go that far, just go into Options in-game. Audio. Music. All the way down. :D

That just mutes the music, but the process is still running. I'm talking about completely disabling it

^ I would say that just silences the music, that is the game still plays the music but you just can't (obviously) hear it.

I'm also curious about completely wiping out music to increase performance. I assume this would happen by renaming the music folder, as I didn't find anything helpful in the .ini files.

EDIT: :ninja: my post is aimed at Holy Assassin

Tried disabling some stuff in the ini file, but this resulted in disabling all of the audio, not just the music. Tested it anyway and the game was running a hell of a lot smoother. Still, I like my SFX

Try renaming the music folder?

I suppose that would require extracting the Fallout - Sound.bsa first, then renaming the music folder and deleting Fallout - Sound.bsa.

Why so? Music is a separate folder and is not contained in a .bsa

Heh, I have been so used to all the games resources being in bsa files, that I missed that the music files were not

You couldn't have tried very hard then. In the FalloutPrefs.ini file, look for:

fDefaultMusicVolume

Set it to 0 and there'll be no music.
