Recently, whenever I open a container, be it a chest, cupboard, or anything that stores items, sometimes it won't let me click on anything, and my only choice is to exit the container. But when I do that, the game freezes and then crashes. It never used to do this and I don't know what's causing it.
I've tried reinstalling, and I have it on Steam.

Does this mean that you do not have any new mods or any mods at all? And have you applied the patches?

I don't have any mods, and I have the patches, but I found that starting a new game helped some, because it doesn't happen nearly as often, but it still sometimes happens.
