Bases

Post » Sat Mar 27, 2010 9:29 pm

So there are the houses in Tenpenny and Megaton but these can get boring. Therefor, some use other locations as bases. I will often use Vault 101 after kicking everyone out during Trouble on the Homefront. I store my things in the Overseer's office just to spite him. What about you guys?

You didn't specify PC or console, so I'm assuming mods are acceptable?

If so, mine is a slightly prejudice choice, since I made it.
I live in the http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7115 the whole playthrough in my games.
I always get the Megaton house, but never move there.

If not, then I'd probably move into one of the houses in Grayditch.

I use the Raider hideout next to Alexandria Arms and across from Arlington Library.

I find it pretty effective. Good storage, a bed, and only one entrance. But there is a respawning Raider, but I drag him away and set mines at the entrance.
Spoiler
There are also Enclave that get dropped off nearby if you finished The Waters of Life. But, like the Raider, I set mines for them.

Maintenance Shed is my current favorite. Small, lots of storage, no frills, and blends in with the surroundings.

I do get lonely not having Wadsworth at times though. And forget trying to fit Fawkes inside that cramped environment, there's not enough room in there the swing a dead feral ghoul. Or even to swing a dead mole-rat.

Grayditch, in Brandice's house. I have quick access to a bed after I fast-travel there, and no one messes with my stuff.

Smith Casey's Garage is another good vanilla one- Plenty of storage, a bed, and workbench as soon as you enter.

http://a.imageshack.us/img16/164/yardautumn.jpg mod next to Agatha's House. Vanilla-wise, I like the Weatherly Hotel room at Rivet City and Dominic and Machete's garage in Canterbury Commons.

I think there's a glitch which allows you to visit Raven Rock at any time. I've never tried it, but if it works, I'd be the happiest man on Earth. It would give a base, and make roleplaying an Enclave member worthwhile on the console.

I’m playing console. I guess, I’ll invest in a new comp, just for this game, agggg, I’ll have to buy two, so my wife has “state-of-the-art” also.

Pretty much, right now, I’m looking at any place that has a useable bed and at least one storage container. But you have to be careful!!!

I love to camp, and decided to use one of the campgrounds as a “way-station”. BIG mistake! It’s the one where there’s a battle between about, oh, I don’t know, about 6 and a bazillion raiders and mutants.

So after clearing it out the first time, I thought, “well, it might respawn a few raiders or a few mutants”. No big problem right? But nooo…. It respawns the whole bazillion, dang, battle…

Oh well, live and learn… I used my last stealth-boy just getting away from that mess… I was left limping to my last cache of supplies…I sure hope nobody else has found them…

Back on topic – straight across from Arlington Library is my fav!

Might be an interesting exercise to play the game without establishing any base whatsoever, aside from having a place you designate for sleeping. Especially if you're also self-limited to a realistic amount of gear (say 75 pounds).
