GOTY already has the latest official patch. Unofficial Patch will work fine with it, so grab that, too.

Just so that you know: that is no bug, there is no compass marker for the fish quest, you have to find the fish yourself.

No... there are quest markers for every quest in the game, Go Fish included.

In fact, Unofficial patches are just like other normal mods. They need official patch to work.

The "official patches" are supplied by Bethesda. Since the GOTY version includes the most recent "official patch" (as long as you install both disks) no additional patching is necessary.

That said The "Unofficial Oblivion patches" were written by members of the community to repair thousands of minor (and not so minor) issues, and are actually "Mods".

Since it would be illegal to modify the games executable files, or actually alter the original files associated with the game, any alterations (Mods) are not, technically, "patches".

The are installed as mods, with their own esps and associated files. Oblivion's game engine is designed to read first it's own files, then read any other activated mods in its data file, and use them to modify the game "on-the-fly".
