Spoiler
Well, in the ultimate heist quest when you jump down from ocatos chimney,
you have the boots on and the script they have save you, if i dont have them on and I survive for whatever reason, after the quest can I keep the boots?

I have not done that quest very often. But every time I've done it I've kept the boots.

It is very possible to survive the fall without the boots on, and so save them.

In fact I'm told the fall damage is scripted. I think that is because the effect acrobatics has on fall damage is broken in the game due to a very sloppy programming mistake that Bethesda does not want to fix. The equations for fall damage clearly show that they are supposed to be affected by acrobatics skill - higher the skill the less the fall damage. But there is clearly a decimal point wrong in the equations. So effectively acrobatics has virtually no effect on fall damage. This is fixed by the unofficial patch, and is a very significant problem Bethesda is not interested in fixing. Perhaps due to this, I'm told the fall damage in that quest is scripted, but is survivable without the boots.

So yes you can complete the theives guild questline and keep the boots.

Fortify health would help during the fall.

Yup. Just make sure you have a high agility and a good amount of health.

Agility does not affect fall damage.

So... Say I.. for whatever reason have a impossibly high acrobatics skill (I.E. Console Commands) If I jump so high that it would kill me, it would despite the skill?

Wow... Really, really bethesda... You fail, youfail.org ! Thats how bad you fail.

With the Unofficial Patch, fall damage is properly calculated. At fully fortified Acrobatics (255), damage from any fall is zero. But since consoles cannot use the Unofficial Patch, console users are stuck with the problem that Acrobatics makes almost no difference in fall damage.

Since Agility was never included in the fall damage calculation, there is no reason to believe that there is any error to correct there.

The fall is highly survivable even without the Boots or fortified Acrobatics, so the expedient of not wearing the Boots is quite good enough.

So, I tried jumping down without the boot... I died

I thought, "Could I duplicate the boots?" but they are a quest item so no...

I have no fortify health potions or ingredients in my inventory

I am not on pc..

What can I do?

The UESP has a step by step guide on how to keep the boots through fall. I'd link, but I am lazy.

it is possible to survive the fall without the boots but you need a lot of health. and shouldn't this be in the spoilers section?

edit: nevermind, it is. :facepalm

Yes, it is in the spoilers section, and it has spoilers over it as well...

Also, Sanguine my Brother, Sanguine.

Could someone please close the thread? I have found an easy way to avoid the jump itself. Get arrested and leave! haha.

And for some, you may think "The guards never accept yield"

While that may be true, if you go back to the sleeping quarters and activate the fireplace you will get an update saying you have escaped the palace, while still being in it. Do this and all the guards go back to being guards, not harbringers of death. And they will arrest you with a modest bounty of 500.

There are various ways to escape and you did find one of them :) Have a look at this page on the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:The_Ultimate_Heist. It won't be a spoiler now that you've finished the quest. I've always managed to save the boots, even with the UOP loaded. I just jumped (without the boots on)... I guess I had enough health to survive the fall.

That's clever. Good solution, Deagonx. Closed by request of the OP.
