Crysis 3 FAQ- Community Made (sticky would be nice)

Post » Sun Feb 17, 2013 4:25 am

Since I'm rather sick to death of people asking the same questions over and over, here's a little FAQ I put together.

Q: Crysis 3 Open Beta was already full of cheaters! I thought they improved the anti-cheat?

During the Open Beta, the anti-cheat was only collecting data, and not actually doing any form of anti-cheat tasks. This was due to Crytek not wanting cheaters to have time to figure out what sort of anti-cheat the game has before release (also, they didn't want to be running an incomplete anti-cheat).

Q: So, what sort of Anti-cheat can we expect to see in the full game?

The anti-cheat in the full game will work on many levels, including:
  • Collecting player movement information (movement speed, weapon fire speed etc)
  • Checking data between client and server
  • Monitoring for non line-of-sight kills. (Getting kills when you cannot see the player in any direction)
  • There is more, however it is all currently a secret

Q: Why is Origin required?

It's for a few reasons.
1. CD Keys will be tied to Origin accounts, so passing out hacking/cheating bans will be easier.
2. Pushing game updates will be faster using Origin's servers.
3. You will be using your Origin account to login to Crysis 3.

Q: Why is Crysis 3 only DX11? Why don't they support DX9/10 like most other games?

Once again, for a number of reasons:
1. Technological progression: DX9 has been out since Windows XP, DX10 since Windows Vista. Crytek wishes to move on from the old technology to make another push within modern gaming, like the original Crysis was. Crysis 3 will be the first AAA game to run only DX11.
2. Having multiple code paths results in more complex code, more development time and more de-bugging. The game would be around two months behind of what it currently is if they had to use two DirextX Versions. Also the game would be more prone to graphical bugs, since Q&A time would have to be split between the versions.
3. CryEngine 3 does not support DirectX10, so the engine would have to be rewritten with support for DX10 with every little feature, then bug tested, of which would've put the game behind at least 3 months.
4. Optimising game/drivers for one DX pathway is quick and easy.

Q: I only have a DX10 GPU! Crytek svcks and the developers are lazy! I'm going to downvote Crysis 3 on all the review websites so they learn their lesson!

A: Butthurt level= 9999. Seriously, why should a game get downvoted just because you're too lazy to save up for a DX11 GPU? Why should they have to put in extra work to support an outdated technology? Crysis 3 is a technological progression. If you want to know how stupid you are, just think of it like this: It's the same as people downvoting the original Crysis because the graphics were too high quality to run on their computer. Have a long, hard think about your attitude.

I'm sure I've missed out a few FAQ's, feel free to PM me if there's something you would like to see here.

Nice FAQ! +1.

But I don't understand. What are out-of-sight kills? So any potential kill while hip-firing could due to a bug get a legit player banned?

Thanks!

Not like that. Think of the common K-Volt-though-the-ground mass kill cheat in Crysis 2, where it kills people without being in any sort of line-of-sight of the players. It basically detects impossible kills like this (note that line-of-sight doesn't mean that the player was looking in the direction of the person he killed, it means you would be able to see the player in one direction if you were to turn the suit around).

EDIT: I've updated the OP to explain this.
