The Dragonborn and Vampirism

Post » Sun Feb 17, 2013 12:12 pm

So I know we're busy with the memespores, but I'm wondering if people can help me out. I'm trying to do a mostly complete play-through and I want to both subvert and follow the mythic of both Wulfharth and Hjalti.

I was wondering what choices would be best in regards to Dawngaurd? I was probably going to become a vampire at some point as an anolog to Wulfharth's death and undeath during his battle with Orkey, but when should I become one? I think before the Soul Cairn to show it's a move of desperation. Should I get it cured? I sort of want to, but I'm not sure of the metaphysical implications of becoming a vampire and being cured. I already know I'm going to be flippant with Serana because she annoys me most of the time (She always hits me with Ice Spike!).

When you put it that way, it does tie Dawnguard nicely into the DB's mythic arc.

IMO, it should happen after the MQ, but before the end of the Civil War. Think of it as undead Wulf being summoned to fight for Skyrim one final time.

Well... I'm keeping the Jagged Crown so...

But thank you for replying! I am done the main quest, I figure it made sense to have already learned Dragonrend and met Alduin on the spirit plane.

From a non-mythic standpoint, I think the storyline just makes a lot more sense from the Dawnguard perspective.

Mythically speaking, I think it's more interesting to play the Forgotten Veil straight. As a Dragonborn, going through the pilgrimage and coming closer to Auriel feels like a natural response of the latent draconic impulses buried within his psyche (as opposed to going through the motions because he wants the bow). But as a Nord and probable Shezarrine, he's torn because he knows Auriel was Shor's betrayer and murderer. I don't know if that helps with your situation much, but that's how I approached it.

It's definitely something to think about. My guy probably will get clean, if only because I hate having a bat nose. Plus I don't want Bal to get my soul, but that's the thing... if you're using a black soul gem to restore you're soul, are you replacing it? I guess my soul is really a dragon soul anyway so what ever small amount of mortal soul matter I use to stay alive is probably irrelevant to my identity.
