Massive memory leak

Post » Sun Feb 24, 2013 1:08 pm

Hello fellow Crysis 3 players. I am enjoying the game, but I have encountered a big issue when playing the MP portion of the game. Ingame or even when customizing load-outs I encounter a huge memory leak and then when I quit the game (which takes a while to do because the system gets really slow) I can see in task manager that I am using 94% of my 8 GB ram!?

All my drivers/bios are up to date, HDD is defragged and I just ran memtest with zero issues found. No other piece of software or game I have installed causes anything as described here I have it solely with Crysis 3. I have attached my Dxdiag file and hope to god that a dev spots this thread and takes a closer look at it.

A 32-bit process cannot use more than 2GB of memory. So even if there was a leak, it wouldn't go over that mark UNLESS the Large Address Aware flag was applied to the executable in which case it can go over 2GB easily.

I am aware that it should never be using that much memory but I have only had this issue with Crysis 3 and it has occured twice now over the span of two days. While playing the MP portion of the game or being in the MP menu. What's worse is I can't shut down the usage, so I am forced to reboot.

Also what farmdve haven't mentioned, operating system (at least the one that you're using) releases memory which has been allocated by any application (in this case Crysis3.exe) when that application terminates. You cannot see memory leak if the process is already terminated. Have a look into task manager (process TAB) to see what application consumes that massive amount of memory.

@ IMSiggy. I have looked at the process TAB but it does not display any app that even comes remotely close to the high figure, but it does show 90+% memory usage which explains the very unresponsive behavior of the machine when the issue occurs. This has really baffled me, I am using Win8 Pro 64-bit btw.

Actually, that is a feature, a convenience. You shouldn't really rely on that, at least on non-Microsoft OSes.

In the process TAB, make sure to check the "Show processes from all users" checkbox.

As I said: operating system (at least the one that you're using) :-)
