H2H attack animation disabling projectiles?

I've been trying to make a model of the Ballistic Fist that fires Alien laser projectiles when fired. The normal animation, where the player extends their fist and turns it to the side to show the barrel, is perfect for my weapon. however, this equip place/animation disables the projectiles. i tried changing the animation to a laser pistol's, and it worked, but the "cannon" part of the B-Fist was inside my arm, and my fingers were pointed as if pulling a trigger. the B-fist would flick downward after firing too. But it shot, just out of the middle of my hand. from this i gather that the actual projectile with come out of the proper cannon part rather than the fist part, which was what i feared. But still, i can't figure out how to make the Ballistic Fist fire a blue laser with its normal animation. Please help?
