Some suggestions about bow?

Post » Fri Mar 01, 2013 3:07 am

Hi guys!
I'm not a skilled player, indeed, i could call myself a noob.
I know that bow is a very skill-based weapon, but i like it very much, and i wanna learn to play it well.

Basically, i don't have a good aim, and i don't really know what to do if an enemy comes to melee-range.
Usually in that case i switch to my mini-gun and shoot at him, but you can imagine that an AY vs Thypoon is not a really equal duel.

So basically, what you guys would suggest me to improve my skill with bow?

PS: I play on PC.

Practice, that's the only thing you can do.

quote from a post someone made on a post i made about bow some time ago:

I use it almost exclusively and do fairly well with it.

Lead moving targets.

If it stands still, shoot it.

Use the toggle keys to switch between arrow versions (you can kill several enemies with a well-placed air burst arrow).

Use your grenade to flush multiple targets; if you cook the grenade first, then you'll get at least one kill and damage someone else, making your next arrow shot very deadly indeed.

Try to catch enemies as they switch to stealth. One arrow shot = Instant Death.

Learn to bunny-hop and fire. Makes you a harder target and may give you the few extra seconds you need to land a much needed arrow.

If you hit an enemy charging right at you with a full-power draw, don't waste your time drawing again; punch him in the face.

Keep your distance, but remember the bow isn't great at extreme ranges.

Use the retriever perk. You'll actually get your kill-streak rewards more easily that way. This will result in more kills.

Don't use the bow in maps that are clearly CQC; like Skyline and such. Save your bow usage for more open maps.

Thanks for replies guys, but actually i can't find the toggle key to switch arrows.
I only can open the "menĂ¹" an select the arrow from there.

I use the bow a lot, but I still have a way to go with it. What really helps me is knowing the maps and knowing which map is very profitable for bow usage. I use the now on many maps, but maps that benefit the bow are maps that have a lot of open space like Hydro Dam, Central Cavern and Williamsburg.

Always try to get to high places, and contrary to what I see a lot of bow users doing, don't stay in one place and camp as that makes you a very easy target. With the aiming, you just have to keep practising. A lot.

I blew chunks when I first started wih the bow but constant usage improves aim. I also have low sensitivity both in game and in my mouse settings but I guess that's personal preference. Good luck!

Hi Vestar_Voss

enter armor mode, jump and try hit him when you are mid air. one melee afterwards will kill your enemy.
so this is basically what i do in such a situation, but in general you should avoid melee range, cause thats not what the bow is made for.

To aviod melee range combats:
-Proximity alert will be your best friend to detect approaching enemies early.
-Always keep an eye on the mini map
-Manauverability can help you escape. There is no falling damage, so you can jump down from high positions without risk. You can grap ledges faster to escape on a higher position.
-If you notice an approaching enemy early enough, a well times grenade will guarant a kill. You should practice using grenades. Most important is the right delay.
-The hunter module will also be a good friend. You dont make footstep noise, enemy footsteps are louder, and you can see enemy footstep trails.

More Basics:
-Never stay too long at the same position. Be mobile to avoid getting surprised by fast incoming enemies.
-Dont fight in open terrain, you will get killed most times. Always run from one cover to the next and fight out of a covered position.
-ALWAYS activate armor mode in fights.

Good luck and have fun

My suggestion would be to jump back, or wherever you prefer, with Maneuverability and melee. Yes you can melee from mid-air even if the player is on the ground, as long he is close to you.
