Just took a visit to Crysis 2...

Post » Fri Mar 01, 2013 1:51 pm

So, after I started to get a bit bored of Crysis 3 today, I decided to see how the player population over at Crysis 2 is fairing.

Its not too good, at 4:30PM Western Australia time, there was under 30 players on the servers. However, I was quite happy to see one of the AU servers having the highest population.

After playing a round, I realised how I miss a few features that Crysis 2 had:
1. The class selection screen, it was so much easier to pick classes than the crap we have now.
2. The size of the interface and font- It was so nice and clear to read, after playing Crysis 3 for so long, its a big shock to go back to Crysis 2's small interface/font, but I much prefer it.
3. The general feel of gameplay- Things in Crysis 3 make the game feel really....light....Crysis 2 always had this 'dark' tone over it, and it flowed well. Crysis 3 is a bright rainbow in comparison.

The things I don't miss is rather long, sprinting feels so SLOWWWW and is horrible in Crysis 2.
Meh.
What do you personally miss from Crysis 2?

inb4 "I hated everything in Crysis 2 cuz imma butthurt Crysis 1 fanboy that just wants to complain about everything"
inb4 "I'm stupid and think this thread is designed for me to blame Crytek for world poverty"
inb4 op is a fgt
inb4 op can't inb4

Nailed it right there my man.
I cannot handle the class selection as it currently stands.
It's just a pet peeve, though.

Another thing I miss is C4.
It just might be me, but the physic of REX is horrible.
You can jump and face at a 60 degree angle looking up and throw the REX, it'll plop right below without going a speck of a distance.

WUT HAPPUND.

Otherwise, I personally love how C3 is played out.

I feel like in Crysis 2 we ended up moving faster than in Crysis 3, even with Maneuverability selected. However the overall "conditioning" speed in Crysis 3 is far superior because you don't have to stop to recharge your energy. But I feel like we ran faster in Crysis 2.

After spending a round in Crysis 2 sprinting, I can tell you right now that Crysis 2 sprinting is just around 0.7 of what sprinting in Crysis 3 is WITHOUT the Maneuverability perk.

It is not acceptable to say C2 is better in anything than C3 on PC at least

It's simply a downgrade on everything. That game was so bad, that it's not even a matter of opinion anymore,it's a fact that it's the worst Crysis ever released

- Crysis 2's aiming felt far more tight and accurate, using melee didn't wrench your camera in a random direction. There is something about Crysis 2's handling that makes me feel far more "in control" when I'm playing with Marshall compared to Crysis 3, which feels like I've got weights tied to my gun. I don't know, I just don't know. Crysis 3 handles differently, the gun mechanics feel sluggish despite the movement being ramped up through the roof. Can't put my finger on it.

- Crytek seemed to design Crysis 3's font/HUD with 40-50" TV's in mind, i.e. for console gamers who sit far back from their screens and actually need stuff to be bigger. Perhaps they forgot that most PC gamers sit on desks, only 1-2 feet away from their 20-23" monitors that have vastly better pixel density and sharper image. Look at Battlefield 3's HUD, now that's how you do it for PC. Clean lines, crisp fonts, clean/professional look.

- KILLCAMS WERE GODDAMN SKIPPABLE. Also there were no goddamn Match Highlights.

- Crysis 2's hit detection felt tighter and more accurate, even though the netcode was always forced to decide who lived and who died despite both players technically "killing" each other on their clients.

- In Crysis 2 cloak actually had a use and Armor didn't feel like something that was 100% needed in order to survive. Auto Armor didn't exist and more importantly there was no NEED for something ike Auto Armor to exist. See my next point...

- There were no retarded one-shot-kill guns (or bow)

- Energy management actually mattered, you had to balance a "triangle" of sprint (mobility), cloak (stealth) and armor (survivability). There were imbalances with Energy Transfer / Mobility Enhance but nothing that couldn't be fixed with a patch that never came.

In all honesty the only thing I can fault Crysis 2 on is the energy-draining movement and a minor imbalance with modules and guns like LTag/FY71 being over the top. Oh and of course the unfinished state of the game, but that is 100% Crytek's intentional fault (I won't say "mistake" because mistakes are accidental).

I still maintain that I would've been perfectly happy with a patched-up Crysis 2 with infinite mobility and new maps/guns, basically a Crysis 2.5. But instead we got Crysis 3, a game that tried to overhaul WAY too many things at the same time and fix things that were never broken.

It's completely acceptable. What you just said is just like saying "You can't say BF: BC's quick scoping is better than BF3's, because BF3 beats Bad Company in every way". The simple fact is the C2 class selection screen is better than the one in C3. Don't be so silly.

I really don't get the class selection in Crysis 3, it's so big and clunky and takes way too much time to pick one, why tf can't we just fully customize it from there?
