Terrible FPS Gigabyte GTX 670

Post » Thu Mar 07, 2013 11:13 pm

Just picked up my pre-order yesterday. Noticed in tutorial I was getting 20 FPS. Did update to the latest drivers and use Geforce Experience to "optimize" my settings.

Starting the first mission hangs at a black screen for a minute before finally loading which I see Pyschos face and the game is running at 8 FPS. Pretty sure a 400 card shouldnt be doing this bad, even with this game.

Specs:

i7 3770K@Stock Speeds
16 GB DDR3 RAM
ASUS P8Z77-V PRO
Gigabyte WindForce 2x GTX 670@Stock Speeds
OCZ Agility 3 256GB SSD
1 TB WD Caviar Black (game installed on this hard drive)

Please state your full graphics settings, including VSYNC, Antialiasing, Texture resolution and all Advanced Graphics options.

Also state your O/S, please.

You should definitely be getting better framerates than that with your system. For comparison, I'm running a GTX 660 Ti (OC 3GB version) paired with an ancient Core 2 Quad processor (Q6700 @2.66 GHz) and 8 GB RAM, and i'm getting decent frames (30 to 50 FPS) running at 1080p, all High settings except Objects and Textures at Very High, with V-Sync and 2xSMAA.

Are you trying to run 8x MSAA, or running a very high resolution, or both? Those can be a major resource drain. Other than that, all I can think of is doing a clean driver install to make sure there isn't an issue there.

Scale your Objects detail back to HIGH and see if that fixes your issue. Water and Shadows on very high are also very demanding, as is Shading. Experiment with those settings.

I'll do that as well as a clean driver install. Let you know the outcome.

Thanks to the both of you for the tips. XD

Turn aniso to 1, everything else to medium or high. You'll triple your fps and it'll look nearly as good.

I've never found anisotropic filtering to be a particular problem for fps. I've left it at the default x16 without issue. At 1, textures will look terribly blurry when seen at an oblique angle. It's certainly worth testing at a lower setting--easy enough to find out if it is causing the slowdown.

Same with running at High or Medium settings... try it, and if performance improves, set each setting back up to Very High one by one to narrow down the culprit.

From an overall performance perspective, the previous WHQL nVidia driver out performed the current 314.07 WHQL driver per test done in 3DMARK11 Extreme Preset

On the previous WHQL driver I scored a X5134 in 3DMARK11. On the current 314.07 WHQL driver my score dropped under X4400

I am not having any problems with frames on the current 314.07 driver. I am getting 80-100 on very high settings @ 1680x1050 with SLI MSI GTX580. I just get random display crashes in the campaign on very high settings but no issues with frames

I will try exporting the Crysis 3 profile, reinstall the previous better performing drive and then import the new C3 profile

A clean installation seems to have fixed the problem!

Thanks again for all your help and suggestions.
