SpellswordBattlemage

Post » Fri Mar 08, 2013 6:14 am

I just started a new playthrough and I decided to create a Dunmer Spellsword/Battlemage. Problem is, I never played a character like that before and I have no idea what skills and perks are worth choosing.

Things that are most important to me:
- Telvanni Robes
- One-handed Sword
- Destruction (Fire & Shock)
- Ignite (Dragonborn DLC)

What other abilities should I chose to keep my magica up and make my character resistant to spells (Enchanting?). Is it worth investing in light armor or only in Alteration. What about Restoration and Alchemy. Is it a good idea to level both?

Any suggestions?

Enchanting, the Aspect of Terror under the illusion tree. If you are going 1-handed, take the bound weapons perk, Mystic Binding under the conjuration tree. It gives 50% more damage to bound weapons, considering the bound weapons are daedric weapons. It will save you from having to take armsman perks.

Also take conjuration for all the helpers you can get. They really come in handy in most any fight.

I also go with sneak, and take the Deadly Aim perk, which gives bows 3x the damage, plus any damage done while sneaking and undetected is boosted, which also raises whatever element you are using at that time faster.

You should also take the Quiet Casting perk under illusion if you decide to sneak. Once you get a couple of helpers, then leave your companion at home. When sneaking, they just get in the way.

I only take 5 perks under restoration, which are novice, apprentice, recovery 2, and adept.

If you take both fire and shock, also take Augmented flames 2 and Augmented shock 2. You can also put poison on your bound weapons.

I do not do alteration, and do not like it, but to each their own. I use the boots that give protection against fire, frost and shock. The higher level you are, the higher protection on the boots.

I also do a 3 to magicka / 1 to stamina. I do not put any points into health. Do not need to. Stamina also helps with how much you can carry.

Thanks for a fast reply :D

Anyway, I don't want to use Bound Weapons, a simple Glass or Steel sword is all I want, maybe an artifact/named sword later. For now I plan on hiring a follower so I might choose Conjuration but later. I say no to Sneak or Lockpicking/Pickpocketing (I want to play a Mage not an Assassin) though I might take Illusion for invisibility and quiet casting.
