Miraak, Lack of Lofty Goals

I find it ridiculous that the single most powerful being in existence aside from the daedric lords would choose to make his return to the real world revolve around the pewny island of Solstheim.

Solstheim seems to have significance as the source of some old Nord magic, for instance stalhrim and the Skaal stones. Besides, you gotta start somewhere.

And then, by the time Miraak returns, he's twelve thousand times more powerful and sends you flying into the dangerously close dual moons of Skyrim with his willpower alone. By the time you return, if you manage to survive planetary devastating force and exiting/entering atmosphere, he's taken the form of the Ultra Mega Badass Dragon Of Pure Energy And Roflstomping. He then devours your soul by accident, thus solidifying his rule as Ultra Emperor of Existence.

The Thalmor probably has some uber high mages that could destroy him with ease. Don't forget about the P order and the redoran guards.

I agree with thtis.

Why return to a land you don't know really well when you can go home?

He does say, when he kicks you back to Solstheim the first time, that you "can wait for him to return like all of Tamriel." I highly doubt his ambitions stop with Solstheim.

I disagree I highly doubt that the thalmor or any else in your list has anyone who can defeat him with ease especially being that he was able to influence Neloth to a small degree without actually being present and dragons bow to his will.

Considering that
Spoiler
he svcked the life out of four or five dragons
and Tiberius still pancaked him pretty easily, I can see why he chose an out of the way site. Not that it saved him. Now
Spoiler
he's a skeleton and Hermeus Butt-face has no servant, because Tiberius has about as much use for daedra as he does for a bad case of hemorrhoids.

It's funny how these "bosses" are supposed to be so all powerful and my guy just walks in and stomps them to dust in a few seconds. The trip getting to them is where the fun is. The final fights are always so pathetic. But it is funny to hear them do so much trash talk beforehand and then crumple to the ground after a few wacks. And my characters aren't even buffed up to the max. I'm probably middle to upper middle in that area. I hate to see how fast these guys would fall to a fully buffed out character taking all the appropriate potions and such. Probably a one shot deal most of the time for them. I never feel like they ever had a shot in hell at taking over anything by the time I'm done with them. It's kinda sad really.

Because he was still trapped inside a realm of Oblivion and therefore, his power could not be fully manifested, anywhere on Nirn. Solstheim, besides being the island he once ruled over, with his center of power (his temple) and his cult, is also small. Which means he could control it's population much easier, by adapting the stones on the island, to some sort of transmitters/amplifiers, making his control over the population, permanent. And then, he would return.

Spoiler
Until then, he would control them through some form of telepathic takeover, occurring whenever they went to sleep. Even the player will be taken over by Miraak, if he chooses to rent a room and leave the search for tomorrow. As I've seen, you find yourself working on Miraak's temple, woken up by Frea's pleas to her fellow Skaal, also working alongside with you. Apparently, because you're dragonborn, Miraak's control over you is loose and that's why you can hear her and break free.
