Get another 680 and you can ALMOST say you have a 690!
Two GTX 680's will out perform a GTX 690, so that isn't exactly a true statement. A GTX 690 has shared RAM and dual GPU's, the same GPU's found in each GTX 680. Two GTX 680's run their RAM independently. Three GTX 680's way out perform a GTX 690.
With that said, one thing I noticed is this game is not at all optimized for SLI. This could be why the GTX 690 is running better because its not noticed as an SLI card. I was getting slightly better FPS with SLI on than I was without it. I run the GTX 680 4096MB version (not the 2G versions) and I got slightly better performance from the SLI setting over 3-WAY SLI with three GTX 680's. Nvidia still has a ways to go with their drivers, especially where SLI and Tri-SLI are concerned. Also keep in mind that Crytek pushed the limits on this game like they always do, so even the most powerful cards are going to have issues running this alone, it will take an SLI or dual GPU solution of some form or fashion to make this game behave with maxed out settings.
How in the world can you compare Far Cry 3 to this game...are you NEW?
Far Cry 3 is visually appealing yes, better than Crytek's output? Not hardly! I played the entire campaign of FC3, I maxed out all the eye candy and loved the game, but compared to Crysis 3, its still lacking very much. Crysis 3 in 3D is amazing, FC3 renders with layers at the wrong depths and more, its 3D offering svcks badly. Crysis 3 has much better tones and environmental feel in campaign than FC3. FC3 will never be comparable to Crysis 3 in anyway whatsoever. The engines are very different and TBH Crytek's much more superior.
Crysis 3 is most likely optimized for 7970s at this stage...
Well we did see an AMD ad in the start up when it was typically an Nvidia ad that started out most of the Crysis games, so we can safely say they got more sponsorship from AMD on this game and it would also make sense that AMD had better drivers because of that on release day. It simply makes sense that AMD would have the leg up on this release as Nvidia does mostly with the games they sponsor more. Crysis 2 released with better drivers with Nvidia than AMD, this time its just switched.
