Recording C3 gameplay

Post » Mon Mar 11, 2013 9:30 pm

Hi guys, I know many of you are recording your gameplays, so I'd like to have your opinion.

In C2 I managed playable settings while recording at 360p using PlayClaw, but I'm afraid that's not going to be possible in C3 (you may remember I have an old PC, Q8400@3.2 GHz, I'm upgrading the GPU this week from Radeon 5770 to 7850). I won't be on my PC for some more days, so I can't test it right now.

My question is: would recording to a dedicated HD give me a LOWER FPS drop? I know I could record at higher qualities recording to a faster/dedicated HD, but I'd like to know if that would have any impact on FPS drop.

Thanks in advance!

You really need a better CPU. In fact, the 7850 may be very bottlenecked by the CPU.

Maybe. But I'm not going to upgrade my CPU for long months. I have to live with it.

How so? You can find a decent CPU second-hand with a decent mobo.

Maybe, but the GPU was more limiting than the CPU, and I don't have enough money to upgrade mobo+cpu+ram.

Any ideas about the fps drop recording to a dedicated HD?

Crysis 3 is very CPU hungry.

Dr. Felip: I started using MSI Afterburner as my recording program and I've noticed 2 things:

1) MSI Afterburner alone has less FPS drops than other recording software I've used.

2) Writing to a dedicated hard drive will only lessen the frame drops under the following conditions:

A) The drive and SATA controller are SATA III
B) The drive is an SSD

The reasons for A and B are pretty simple: the read/write bottleneck is reduced significantly. Also, if you're going to be recording, make sure you test out your settings several times, as you will have to optimize them to get the smoothest experience possible.

Enjoy! :D

What about looking from another perspective - if you CPU is the bottleneck then recording shouldn't really drop your frames much
