The sun shone on the Mojave Desert. The sky was clear and Foreward Outpost Whiskey was full of activity. Soldiers bustled back and forth carrying guns and supplies to and from travelling supply convoys, and off-duty troopers shot the breeze while waiting for it to be their turn to take watch over the vast expanses of dirt.
Mathias fastened his helmet as he entered the parade ground. A powerful Anti Materiel Rifle was slung over his shoulder, and a Ranger Sequoia was fastened to his belt at his side. A dozen soldiers stood before him, arms and minds ready for action. He sighed as he tried to think of what he would say to them.
"Alright, everybody, I'm Ranger Mathias Jacobs. You've all been selected to help me take down a Legion raid camp that's been harassing our supply routes lately."
He paused, scanning the crowd for any hints of confusion. When he saw none, he continued.
"For this op, we'll be splitting into two groups. One with me and one with....somebody else...." He floundered as he realized he hadn't found another Ranger to take command of the second group.
"Uh....Any other Rangers here today that want to take the second group?"
