What is this Hearts of Iron 2?

A quick search on the Great All-Knower of everything that was, is, and shall ever be, Wikipedia, revealed that Hearts of Iron is a strategy game set in WWII that was released in 2002. A sequal, Hearts of Iron 2, was released in 2005, with Hearts of Iron 3 to be released sometime in 2009.

Why this has anything to do with Fallout, even the Great All-Knower couldn't tell me.

Hearts of Iron 2 has multiple mods, and due to the fact that it's a strategy game, it makes the perfect format for a Fallout-esq game.

And a Warhammer-esque game. And a Halo-esque game. And so on.

The link is related to Fallout, but the game isn't. The ability to be modded into a Fallout-esque game doesn't say that much.

I've been playing HoI2 since it was released, and can supply these facts:

- It is a World Domination game set in WW2.
- You can pick any country from the era, or create your own with some modding.
- The Fallout mod uses the North American section of the map, with all other continents "blackened out".
- It is more fanfic than canon. With exception of things like NCR, Shi, BoS and Enclave, the whole setup has been taken from imagination.
- Regardless, it is a popular mod and friends of Fallout should give it a shot if they own Hearts of Iron II. Although I don't really like it due to the lack of Fallout canon.

If you like grand strategy and wanted to do so in a 'Fallout' setting, then I think HOI2 is an excellent choice for basing a mod on.
