so i was thinking of ways to...

make the mainland game world bigger without putting too much strain on the console or pc running the game etc.. not just for mods but for game developers and future games too...

and i thought about all the games ive ever played and how they dealth with such issues...honestly none of them have a game world as big as id like..but some dealth with game space issues interestingly...

fable and kingdom of amalur for example deal with game space in the main world by using a series of smaller worldspaces that are connected via pathways the charaters steps thru like a loading door to the next area. the player can still fast travel to any of the areas on the world map.

the reason i thought of this was cuz elder scrolls , even though the game world is decently hguge by game world standards, i feel should have larger game worlds than it does when one considers the amount of distance each region of tamriel is supposed to entail. for example i could cross the oblivion world map from right to left in 5 - 10 minutes on horseback. a normal black horse not shadowmere. for an empire comprised of multiple countries turned provinces of said empire thats not very big...i realize its probably impossible right now to generate a more realistic game world size and maybe such a thing wouldnt even be playable but i think game world size can and should also be largely increased...in oblivion as well as skyrim i trip over an ancient ruin or dungeon like every 50 yards it seems..

so to fix this issue i thought of two options...

the first was to keep the game world size as it is but to make it correspond only to a small chunk of the overall map of the region. then later DLC can patch chunks of land into that or else future new games can "plug in" to the game world just like DLC would.

the second option could be to make each region of the game map as big as the game world is not then plug them together using the load doors/pathways like fable and kingdoms of amalur use to connect their game world regions...so each region would be as big as the whole game world is right now and there would be multiple connecting regions. so if skyrim did this it would have each hold be a region the size of the current game world connected by mountain pass pathway loading door things.
