Man I hate this DLC

I started a new character last week that I am heavily role-playing. The thing is I am at level 13 and already vamps are attacking so I figured I would stop what I am doing, role-playing, and get rid of this crap that is messing up my game. I want to leave the DLC on for the other things it adds to the game.

So I find the Dawnguard and plan on joining them. One of the first missions is to find those two to help. Well I find one but could not find the other. Then I read in the wiki that he might be in Solstheim if Dragonborn is installed. So I go there and sure enough there is the marker. The problem is the marker is on the other side of the island.

Let me tell you, level 13 and running across Solstheim is a nightmare. Even the hoppers were killing me. Then I find the guy and the bear we need to kill is hiding among a bunch of Horkers, including some huge Lord Horker. The guy I am trying to recruit does not last even 10 seconds and he is down. I am kiting fireblast for ten minutes (and several reloads) before I can kill everything and the guy will join me.

Then I go back to Whiterun to drop off my loot, broad daylight, and vamps are attacking the main gain. Took me three reloads before I could kill them before killing the smith woman there.

This DLC is so freaking broken on so many levels I just can not believe it.

I do recall finding a mod that would make the NPC’s run from dragons and vampires and not try to fist fight them, leaving the fighting to the guards. I may have to install this before moving on.

So does anyone else have problems with this DLC like this? Any mod suggestions to fix these and other issues?

Thanks.

I think of it as immersion. It puts more of my skin in the game.

You cant play so you blame the DLC? no one forced you to play it on level 13 man. Your best bet is to lower the difficulty at least until you get your hands on good gear or level up a bit more.

Actually the vamps were attacking before I reached level 13. I didn't invite them to start attacking, the DLC decided that. I'm leveling and upgrading as fast as I can. In fact I went and got Dawnbreaker hoping that would help some.

In retrospec I could have waited until I got to level 20 before turning the DLC on, but I really don't like popping a DLC on in the middle of a character. The main guy I play did this DLC a long time ago and I had forgotten how this DLC crams itself down your throat whether you want it or not. To be honest hunting vampires doesn't really go with my role-play either, but it kind of hard to ignore the dead NPC's laying in the streets every time I enter a city.
