So i thought that it would be awesome to have viva las vegas by elvis presley, but then i got thinking. Would elvis have become a star in the fallout universe? I mean sure, he lived during the sixties, but would his music have become popular, or would he have even been born into the fallout universe? other artist where, such as the ink spots and bob crosby, but the question is, if Elvis presly, the king of rock and roll, was born into the fallout universe( which seems to have an absence of rock and roll) would he have been the same artist he was in our universe?

Well, there is the Velvet Elivis Painting in the crashed UFO random encounter from the old Fallouts... (Though I'm not going to dissolve yet another thread into meaningless debate over whether that was "canon" or not...)

The way I see the whole timeline split is that anything that happened after the split exists in a sort of probabilty bubble until it's mentioned one way or another in-game. (Sort of a Schroedinger's Cat-Box for videogame theory... an if a tree falls in the woods and no-one's there to here it sort of thing....) Sure there seems to be a prominent 50's theme to the surviving music you come across in Fallout. But whether that's because it underwent a rebirth of interest right before the War or whatever is largely up to interpretation. The game has made no mention of it either way.

So yeah - if they put Elvis songs into the game, then he existed and rose to popularity in the Fallout Universe. If he's not in the New Vegas game, it only means just that. There's still no in-game lore that would point one way or another.

And yeah - I think it would be very fitting to stroll into a ruined Las Vegas while listening to "Viva Las Vegas" over the radio...

Well, "Viva Las Vegas" is his song from the 1960s. However, maybe Elvis remained popular in the Fallout timeline (as evidenced by the paintings, found also in FO2 in non-special encounter locations), but his style for all of his career was more like his songs from the 1950s?

Seems too much rock n roll for the 50's...early 50's anyway, I think. Regardless, music is one real world intrusion I can accept, but let's not push the campyness here.

A lot of Fallout 3's GNR artists were popular in their time. Bob Crosby didn't get the attention of his more famous brother Bing Crosby, but he was still fairly popular. Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Danny Kaye were definitely famous as were The Ink Spots. Most famous artists and bands fade into obscurity after a decade or two, but most of Fallout 3's GNR songs were indeed very famous in the 30's and 40's.

They'll probably find a better fitting song that viva las vegas to put an ironic twist on. Atleast I hope so, since Viva Las Vegas is too obvious.

Yes, but the idea, I think, is that they aren't famous to us, and Viva Los Vegas is...too famous, IMO. Beside3s, I bet licensing that song won't be cheap.

As far as music goes, I hope Mark Morgan does the environmental tracks. Nothing from Fallout 3 compares to the first two, especially not the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CsLYRViuEc&feature=related&fmt=18.
