How far in Skyrim Main quest before Dragonborn?

I am playing a not-nice Mage right now. Finished Thieves and Dark Brotherhood, also am ArchMage. I haven't started the Main quest of Skyrim. Do I
have to defeat Alduin before I can successfully complete Dragonborn?

no u dont have to kill alduin just complete jurgen of the windcaller quest which greybeards gives u when u visit them for the first time

though the dragonborn mq has new dialogue for those who complete Skyrims mq not substantial but there's some
