Crysis3.exe crashes with 0xc00001a5

OS: Windows 8 Pro x64
GFX: GeForce GTX 670

System plays all other games without a problem (e.g. LOTRO, SWTOR, Civ5 (DX11), Dishonored, Prototype 2, etc.) so I do not believe it is a DirectX issue.

nVidia graphics driver is the latest version (314.07).

All the available Windows updates are applied.

Games is activated in Origin, not Steam, and I have run a repair which reports all the files are intact.

I can launch the game and navigate the menu, but after the loading messages when starting a campaign the game crashes to the desktop with "invalid weights" displayed.

The Application event log has the following:
Faulting application name: crysis3.exe, version: 1.2.0.0, time stamp: 0x02f49040
Faulting module name: crysis3.exe, version: 1.2.0.0, time stamp: 0x02f49040
Exception code: 0xc00001a5
Fault offset: 0x0265fd5c
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin\games\Crysis 3\Bin32\crysis3.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin\games\Crysis 3\Bin32\crysis3.exe

The first time I launched the game I elected to skip the tutorial, and I briefly saw a glimpse of the game (looked like a dark, rainy rooftop?) and an NPC "floated" past before the crash occurred.

I could run the tutorial one time, but there was no weapon drawn on the screen, which I assume is not correct?

After this, I cannot start the game at all, it crashed immediately after the loading messages.

Exception code 0xc00001a5 == STATUS_INVALID_EXCEPTION_HANDLER, I searched the forum before posting but only found one reference to this occurring at the end of a multiplayer game.

Is this a common/known/new issue?

I got the game 9 days ago and deliberately waited before starting to play it because of the inevitable 1.x patches that crop up shortly after a game is released, so I don't know if 1.0 or 1.1 would have worked...
