Can't get passed the launcher

Post » Mon Mar 18, 2013 3:01 am

Hi everybody, I am probably not the first to ask this so feel free to point me to an older thread if you like. I just bought Fallout 3 and installed it but every time I try to play it the launcher comes up, I press play and instead of opening the game the disk stops spinning (as far as I can hear), the launch screen vanishes only to re-start a second later and put me back exactly where I started. The strange thing is that it actually did work once, I decided to give it one last go and for some reason it opened properly, as far as I can remember I didn't do anything differently. It played fine, no lags, no issues but after an hour or so I had to shut it down but when I came back to play again I was back to the same problem as before. So clearly the game can be run perfectly well on my computer, it just doesn't most of the time. If it was incompatible I could accept that but this just seems weird. It is a new laptop and the specs are easily good enough to handle the game but it is on windows 8. I have tried it in compatibility mode with no success and I have tried changing the graphics settings. I downloaded the Windows live update as well. I hope you can help.
