What real-world language would the provinces speak?

Post » Mon Mar 18, 2013 6:17 pm

I just want to know from you guys what languages from the real-world each of the provinces would speak? For those of you who don't know all the provinces, I will list them:

-Skyrim
-High Rock
-Cyrodiil
-Hammerfell
-Morrowind
-Black Marsh
-Elsewyr
-Valenwood
-Alinor

I only came up with the languages of a few provinces: Alinor would speak French because they are the most civilized, Cyrodiil would speak Latin (I don't think that needs any explaining), Skyrim would speak Swedish.

Somewhere along the way, the Dunmer went Australian.

French would work better for High Rock. They already have french names.

Cyrodiil - Late and Vulgar Latin
Alinor - Japanese
Morrowind - Hebrew
Hammerfell - Berber
High Rock - Welsh, Gaelic or other such Celtic languages
Skyrim - Old Norse
Valenwood - One of the Baltic Finnic languages

Can't say for the Beast Races. They are nothing like any human culture.

I always imagined Morrowind′s Dunmeri as the ancient language of Sumer and Babylon . If you look at the names of the ancient daedric ruins, they all resemble names of Sumer... "ashurbanibal" .. etc.

I thought the "common" language of Nirn was Tamrielic? Spelling may be off.

Every time I think of what they would sound like...I get lost in comparison, as Nirn being a completely different world, I see them speaking in tongues unlike anything we have ever herd.
