Fallout NV crashes when I try and load a save. Resolved Rein

Post » Mon Mar 18, 2013 9:12 pm

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place.

Alrite so I play with new vegas modded and everytime I want to play with mods I have to disable them and reinstall all of them everytime I want to play. also everytime I exit the game via menu it crashes.

okay so my problem is I go and load up new vegas and everything is fine until I try and load my save (modded save) and I'm pretty sure nothing conflicts with each other but I will list my mods I have,

I also edit some of the mods that feel weak to me like the an 94 or the advanced recon gear and I edited holy grenades to be weightless

I also added some stuff to doc mitchs house and edited the good springs gasstation to be a temp home

thats all I really edited.

Other then that I can't figure out why my fonv is messed up should I do a clean install?

Mods are not easy to use, you can't just throw them at your game and expect them to all work, or the game to work, or they won't corrupt your save.

Do you use any tools to install these mods and get them sorted properly and working together?

Are terms like BOSS or Wrye Flash or Bashed Patch or FOMM or FNVedit new to you?

Since I don't want to type this all out again, see this thread. Pay attention to the links to the mod tutorials and watch those before you reinstall everything.

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1447119-slight-problems/

Then, once you learn how to get published mods working, then learn how to make you own mods and all the issues that can come from not making those right.

How does Vanilla FNV play (no mods graphics or otherwise)? Can you load your saves? How about exiting the game?

Good you found the mod causing the load crash.

If the game still crashes on exit with vanilla fallout, then it probably isn't due to any mods you have. Are you using any texture mods, graphic mods, enb series, d3d9.dll fix? 4GB fix?

What does your event viewer say? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/open-event-viewer
Look at the application log under the windows logs folder. Try to find anything fallout NV related. Since the crash is ez to reproduce, you can clear the log first and then crash the game again.
Just right click the log and select clear log. You don't have to save it first.

I used fnvedit and it fixed alot of the problems other then the crashing here is the error report:
I'm going to go ahead and guess i need to replace falloutnv.exe

If your only consistent crash is now when you quit the game, there probably isn't much you can do. Bethesda games have a history of 'crash on exit' and FNV is no exception.

You likely don't need to replace the exe. I doubt it's the actual culprit.
Sometimes the event viewer is helpful, and most of the time not.

I might suggest you try temporarily disabling anti-virus and firewall. You can try to add falloutnv.exe and the falloutlauncher.exe to your antivirus exceptions list.
You might try playing with compatibility mode settings for the 2 exe's as well.

Apparently the new vegas stutter remover can help with this also.
Install it and start the game once so that the ini file is created. Then, open the sr_New_Vegas_Stutter_Remover.ini file (located in the Data/nvse/plugins folder). Find the line "bFastExit = 0" and change it to "bFastExit = 1".
Not sure if this works. Maybe someone can confirm.

I did a fresh install of the game and it runs perfectly fine no crashes to report I must have messed up somewhere along the line when I installed mods.

*edit* (I didn't need a fresh install it was performance of the gods that made me crash upon exit of the game I have sense then stopped using the mod and I haven't seen a crash sense.)

*edit* (I have went and tried you're suggestion jasper1979 and the game doesn't crash ignore the earlier edit above this one)
