What is the point of upgrading a skill to Legendary?

What is the point of upgrading a skill to Legendary? So your skill goes for 100 to 15 and you get the upgrades back but the skill tree is empty. Why do that? I don't get it.

So that I don't have to have an Assassin that grinds out the Magic schools just to get to the highest levels. I can only focus on my 6-8 core skills, and when they hit 100, rather than being stuck there, I can just tag them Legendary, reset them and keep leveling again.

But the drop isn't as bad as the fear-mongers are making it out to be. Yes, you do lose the benefits of the Perks in those specific Skill trees. But by that point, you probably have some pretty amazing equipment that's going to even out the loss.

Point is, I don't have to grind out Skills that I would never use otherwise in order to reach the highest tier loot, enemies, or difficulties.

The Dragonborn respec option doesn't reset the Skill tree. It just lets you reassign the Perks. If that Skill is at 100 and you respec it, it still won't affect character leveling. With 1.9, you reset the Skill to 15 and get those Perks points back, thus allowing you to level higher than the former cap of 81.

Like I mentioned above, this means that if you're playing a specific character type, you don't have to level Skills that are "out-of-character" in order to reach the pinnacle experiences that the game has to offer.

This exactly. No more level cap and no more "Conjure me up a warm bed." When I'm a warrior.
