EA CEO Riccitello Resigns after Crysis 3/DS3/SC5 Disasters

Post » Tue Mar 19, 2013 2:54 am

After disastrous reception of Dead Space 3, Crysis 3, and most recently Sim City 5, EA CEO Riccitello has stepped down and has issued a warning that quarterly earnings will be well below expectations for the company.

The move comes as EA is facing another period of weaker sales. The company warned on Monday that revenues and EPS for the current fourth fiscal quarter “will be at the low end of, or slightly below previously issued guidance” from its last earnings report on Jan. 30.

This despite the release of high-profile sequels to properties such as “Dead Space” and “Crysis” — which some anolysts believe are generating disappointing sales.

What did you expect? Dead Space 3 console port as stated by the developers themselves, Sim City Always online DRM and broken servers...and Crysis 3 with it's numerous bugs in MP only(SP not included) as well as driver crashing and short campaign.

In fact, Crysis 3 is literally abandoned by the very people who sponsored it, AMD. Their latest beta driver as well as the last few have zero optimizations for Crysis 3.

This is almost too good to be true. EA's top games have become worse and worse since he became CEO. I remember reading an article about him that said he congratulated Activision's CEO for his achievement on CoD's paid subscribtion service and DLC model. Explains why EA is going in that same direction. Dumbing down games to make them 'more accessible', rushing out unfinished games to beat competitors and deadlines, letting developers make false promises to boost sales, that was happening under the policy of Riccitello. Really glad he'll be gone. Let's hope someone who puts more value into gamers, communities, quality games and long term customers instead of shareholders steps up as the new CEO.
