I did the Vampire play through the first time. I am playing a new game now. I was thinking of doing DG, but thought, I never played the Lord Vampire very well, so maybe I should play it properly this time. So my question is, what am I missing by not playing the Dawn Guard?

Hmm, you will miss out on Crossbows other then the basic one, the spells Stendarr's Aura and Sun Fire. I belivie that's it. Never cared much for playing the vampire side myself. But i'm doing it now on PC so i spawned all these things with the console anyway.

Crossbows above the standard steel you find on bodies, trolls, huskies, some prty sick weapons to fight the undead.

Thanks Larson for the reply. I will look up what they do. Thing, is, are they fun to use? I think I read up on them along time ago but it didn't seem fun. So am I really missing out on Stendarr's Aura and Sun Fire? Also what about the crossbows? Are there unique bows that are must have? Can I play as DG and become a vampire later if I so wanted to? Would the DG attack me then if I did so?

not that much only armor and crossbows that you can find in dead bodies the tough part is the bolts but after some time you have already a few of them, and also 2 to 4 spells
