I just started a battlemage for a legendary playthrough.
I roughly plan my characters ahead using http://skyrimcalculator.com/ and then tend to let them grow depending on what I really use so it's not all set in stone from the beginning.
When I started planning, I initially came up with something quite similar to your plan:
- Breton
- Double handed axe for melee, destruction magic for range (I prefer lightning since fire and frost travel too slow for my taste and I tend to consider spellcasters especially nasty on higher levels.
- Conjuration (I prefer Atronachs/Daedra over Undead) and for bound weapons until I get my smithing and enchanting up high enough for decent weapons.
- Restoration for tanking purposes along with
- Heavy Armor
- Smithing and Enchanting as crafting skills - imho that's pretty much mandatory for a battlemage
So here's how it turned out (lvl 18 so far):
- Right when I started playing, I realized that constantly switching back and forth between a two-hander and spells would be incredibly annoying so went one-handed instead.
- So far, Conjuration and One-handed level the fastest (mostly using the steed stone except when enchanting or smithing) since I find myself constantly using an atronach and a bound sword. The Atronach is really a livesaver on legendary since its damage and tanking capabilities are unaffected by legendary difficulty.
- Destruction is stuck at a pretty low level (17, I think) since I constantly have to heal myself due to the insane damage I get on Legendary, so Restoration is way higher.
- Right now, I'm thinking about ditching destruction altogether, because to use it remotely effectively, I'll need impact which requres me to dualcast, so I'd end up discontinuing to use one-handed weapons since I'd just use destruction (I know myself

).
- Instead I think I'm going to add Alteration - transmutation will help me level my smithing faster and since I observed a nasty tendency to get one-shotted on Legendary, I can use the additional magic resistance and tank with paralysis as a cherry on top.
Stat-wise, I put everything in magic and health with about 30% more in magic - it allows me to active-tank quite comfortably. I don't think I'll go beyond 100 in stamina - the steed stone allows me to carry quite a bit and I don't need it for power-attacks since I always eat vegetable soup

.
Hope that helps, although most of my decicions are based on the decision to play on legendary.
