Blocking and Armor Cap

Post » Sun Mar 24, 2013 8:28 pm

Is there any addition damage reduction added when blocking if you have already reached the armor cap with your armor? I'm not talking about addition benefits such as Elemental Protection or Bashing, just damage mitigation...

You can still block the damage that gets past your armor.

How much additional damage mitigation would I be looking at? Noticeable?

With 100 Block skill and the perks one can mitigate 97% of physical damage. That is with a capped armor rating.

85% is the normal max, right? Not too shabby...

Thought it was 80%. It's very noticeable. My character that is both block and armor capped has no issue whatsoever going toe to toe with Ancient dragons on master(using a greatsword)

On a related note, does the armour rating of the shield, and whether it is light or heavy, have any noticeable difference?

Just that I am a light armour user, but wanting to make use of spellbreaker, which is classed heavy.

I wish shields were not tied to heavy or light, just shields.

Unless there is a huge difference in armor rating, then no.

As for you second question. By all means, use Spellbreaker. It is the best shield in the game. It will have adequate armor rating, even with a low armor skill (the block skill is more important), and doesn't affect matching set/custom fit.

Ah good to hear, it's saved my ass from dragon breath a couple times.

I also got Targe of the Blooded, gave it Lydia as I already had Spellbreaker. There aren't that many options regarding (cool looking, IMO) shields. :(

Blades Shield and Dragon Plate look pretty sick as well, as does the Bonemold (IMO).
