Whiterun is bugged. Help please

Post » Sun Mar 24, 2013 11:30 pm

Not only. I was mainly thinking about Realistic Needs and Diseases, Economics of Skyrim and Subliminal Traps (this one is not necessary by any means, but I'm very demanding when it comes to traps and stealth in general).

 Alright, here's what you should do: first make sure that all your mods are up to date. Then start turning them off, half at a time, and check if a new character is able to enter Whiterun (don't do it on an old save, you'll only mess it up). As you narrow down the list of acitve mods, you may be able to determine which one is the culprit.
well this is going to be fun

This is why you use Wrye Bash and make a bashed patch. You also want to add mods a few at a time and play for a few hours to see if conflicts arrive. If you dump 100 mods into your data folder and go adventuring, you will break your game. Guaranteed.
Still, over one hundred mods? Does anyone even need that many mods at once?
Sure. Why not?

I know, I once had the same problem with Riften  It turned out that several of my saves were irreparably broken. Hopefully it won't be the case here.

Are you sure you don't have any mods directly affecting Whiterun? Any texture replacers? NPC mods? Whiterun is pretty demanding by itself, maybe your PC just can't handle the heavy load and crashes. Though the problem seems to be related to the new patch since it only appeared now.

Can anyone help me?
Get BOSS to sort your load order and Wrye Bash to find conflicts and create a bashed patch.

You may have corrupted that save file, unfortunately. I try to back up my entire save folder whenever I want to play with a lot of mods. Did you get Wrye? It might let you fix the save.

Does it launch for you? Do you get a menu that lists all your mods next to colored boxes?

Yeah
Allrighty. I haven't tried this since TES4 and I'm still figuring out Wrye on Skyrim. First, go back up your save folder.
What does your mods list look like? The check boxes should all be green. If any are pink, you have a conflict. Look for an entry called Bashed Patch. Right click>File>click "duplicate". Now right click the original again, select build patch. Viola. Lot's of magic happens that I don't understand. This might be enough to solve your problems right here.
Click on the saves tab. Your save file is probably colored red/pink. Click on it to highlight. Now click in the right hand pane and it should say something like "Update Masters List?" Click yes. Click save. Your save file should now be orange or blue. Fire up the game and see what happens.
