Selling Formerly Used Homes

I've been thinking about idea of having the possibility to sell your perviously used houses back to the city. Although it's nice having a home in certain cities, I rarely use them and if I need a place to stay while visiting a town I can easily spend the 10 gold to rent a room. My old houses do nothing but hold a bunch of my old items that I'm not too worried about anymore. After buying and moving into a new house I always take with me all of the most valuable items anyway.

I figured you wouldn't have to lose your housecarl because they will just be stationed and always found in the Jarl's area from then on.

Now I'm not expecting a return on my investment or any projected profits. Even though that would be cool. Especially if the price was adjusted depending on when you chose to sell it. Basically like a simulated real estate market. I would just like to sell my old homes back to the city even if I take a hit gold-wise. It would be cool if they actually compensated you for having the house entirely furnished though. Maybe even account for whatever items or valuables you have in there. Perhaps what they could do is set all your items in a storage unit somewhere in the Jarl's palace right after selling the home.

What would you guys think of having the ability to sell your formerly used homes back to the city? It would be completely optional of course.

And if you decide to want to stay somewhere later, how do you justify buying it back?

I don't think it'd work - for all major cities except for Whiterun, owning property is a requirement for becoming Thane. It wouldn't make much sense otherwise.

Still, a good idea.

In some cities, becoming a thane is the requirement of being able to buy property in the first place.
