Retriever - The WORST module in C3 ?

Post » Wed Mar 27, 2013 5:43 am

Just like the topic states, I challenge anyone to make an argument for ANY other Module being worse than Retriever.

Why is Retriever so bad you might ask?... Lets make a list:

1) All 3 Tiers become completely and utterly useless after you get a Max Nanosuit.
2) The Killstreaks in this game aren't very great to begin with and aren't worth sacrificing a perk for.
3) The other perks you lose by using Retriever put you at a disadvantage against anyone in a gun fight that's using 3 perks that actually enhance their abilities.

Let me elaborate on #2 first. Radar is probably THE most useful Killstreak besides Max Nanosuit... and even Radar isn't THAT useful on certain maps like Chinatown that have 8 different levels that the enemy could be on. The Ceph Gunship is OKAY at best, its very "hit or miss". Sometimes it gets 0 kills for no apparent reason, other times it gets shot down right away by a Swarmer or whatever, and sometimes it may get 2-4 kills at the most which still isn't that spectacular to waste a perk on. Orbital Strike is probably my LEAST favorite Killstreak. I don't know how I get 0 kills with it sometimes when I drop it right on top of 4 enemies and they are able to literally jump out of the beam while it's cooking them. The Swarmer is OK at best, its good for taking out Pingers and Gunships, but to be effective against other players you need to have the high ground. The leaves us with EMP, which is a decent KS, but again it's nothing spectacular that would justify wasting a perk on Retriever for.

This brings me to another point that is MUCH less obvious and harder to explain, but bare with me. Picking up your dogtags right away is not ALWAYS ideal. For instance, lets say all the action is going down in the center of the map, you kill 2 people and someone else kills you before you pick up any dogtags. IF you had Retriever on, it would have gave you those 2 dogtags right away before you got killed, making those 2 kills useless. However if you DIDN'T have Retriever, you can now go collect your 2 dogtags and most likely get a couple more on your way back, now you have 2 - 3 dogtags and enough for a Radar that you wouldn't have got if you had Retriever on. Get it?

The reason why I'm making this post is my friend is raving about how awesome he is with Retriever, and I've been trying to tell him, just because you're playing well doesn't mean its because of Retriever... I doubt the Killstreak bonuses from Retriever are affecting your stats that much if AT ALL. He would be so much stronger in a gun-fight if he used all 3 perks that actually helped his gameplay, not boosting (nearly) useless Killstreaks.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Help me set my friend straight pls! =P

1) Why do you care about killstreaks after Max Nano.
2) Don't equip it if you dont want to.
3) If you depend on Perks to win your gunfights, your doing it wrong.

It′s funny because about 2 days ago there was a thread about it being overpowered.

Did you actually read any of that? Or just you just see the title and make a bunch of assumptions. Because if you actually read it, then you seriously need to work on your reading comprehension skills.

1) I never said I cared about Killstreaks after Max Nano. The point I was making is Retriever is USELESS on all 3 levels after you get the Max Nanosuit, so at that point you will be playing with only 2 perks for every kill past your 10th.

2) I DON'T EQUIP it for all the reasons I am outlining here.

3) Its pretty ignorant to imply that you shouldn't need perks to help you win gunfights. I'd like to see you play a full game with no perks on and see how many gunfights you win. The point is, the more perks you use that actually enhance your abilities, the better you will fare in a gun fight. Put 2 scar users of equal skill, give 1 no perks and the other Maneuverability, Weapon Pro, and Rapid Fire or whatever else, who do you think is going to win that fight?

Sometimes I think people argue just to argue something, even if logic is beating them over the head with facts and reasoning.

That perk is actually one of the best. Its a must have on sniper class loadout.

1. If you can get maximum nanosuit, odds are good that you are winning the match.
2. Radar gives your entire team so much situational awareness. Swarmer on Spears/Crashsite = easy 3+ kills. EMP just puts your team ahead by stripping cloak/armor/powerjump. Gunship is arguable because I have personally killed it before it even scored a kill so I assume good teams will do just that and void it. Maximum nanosuit is another few free kills or if it's objective play, guaranteed objective hold for the duration. All of those are big deal IMO.
3. There is more to winning in this game than just pointing and shooting unless your aim is 100% accurate. Your position in relation to objectives and enemies can either give you a great edge or disadvantage in firefight, and if you can aim medium-long range with retriever it means you can better pick your position without compromising on dog tag pickup.
