Skyrim Stabilized For Me

This site seems so much like the Nexus one. I just posted this info there and apologize if it is linked somehow and this is a double post. The intent is to help.

======================================================================================================

Folks, I am no expert. So the information given here is what I've found through searching and has helped me have a good running game, once again. Thank you to those who posted the helps and hope these things will also be of aid to other players. Also thanks to the Bethesda techs who tried to help.

1. I have an older Sound Blaster card. It was adjusted DOWN from 24 bit to 16 bit. That immediately stopped my video freezing problem while the rest of the game ran on.

2. In DXDIAG turn the accelerator for sound down. I also had that onboard nonsense I don't like and turned it totally off.

3. In the OPTIONS: Turn on the widescreen. I am running MEDIUM on the graphics settings. High or Ultra (which the game picks) will not run.

Since I made (found) these adjustments, I've only had 2 ctds in several days of playing. But there was an adjustment in the medium/advanced/detail that I turned lower and that seems to have fixed that. Sorry , don't remember which one that was, but the radial blur is low and the others medium.

Hope this helps. Oh, I run XP, GeForce 550ti, 4G ram, and as I said an older SB card. Next month I will upgrade to Win 8 and a newer card. Good luck to me.

Probably best to post this in the PC section.
