NPC AI: Can we talk?

Seriously.

This is really getting annoying.

Last night, I was playing Skyrim and I was doing my usual business. I had fast-travelled to Whiterun to unload some loot I got out of a dungeon, and in broad daylight, a Vampire attack happens just as I zone in.

The nearest 5-6 NPCs both whip out their weapons and fling head-first into battle. Not just any NPCs.... three guards, Amren, that beggar, and......Adriane Avenicci (the blacksmith girl).

Of course, out of that whole list, the one who just HAD to die was Adriane. The most important (to me) NPC in the entire area, just had to die to that stupid vampire attack.

So, being that I play the game on PC, I pull the Console up, click on her, type "resurrect".

Wa-La! She's standing and walking again. I just didn't want to have to deal with the hassle of losing such a crucial NPC to my regular loot-dumping routine (having TWO shopkeepers side-by-side that routinely have 1000+ gold that both sell Ore? uh, yeah).

So I go back to my playing, and I notice something.....she's never at the Forge. As an experiment, I wait 2 hour increments for a full 24 hours and she never showed up. I talked to Ulfberth and he talks like she's still alive (he didn't mention her being dead, etc). So, I'm like "uh okay what the heck is up with this?" and I do a player.moveto.

I find myself in this really weird green and purple + shaped room, two coffins, this guy in his underwear, etc. I later find out through some googling that this is some sort of dead body cleanup cell. She's standing there -- Alive. I click on her to "target" her, coc myself to Whiterun, and then teleport her there.

Hopefully that did the trick.

But seriously, Bethesda?

Can we talk about AI?

Can you please give different types of NPCs different behaviors? Shopkeepers, commoners, beggars, etc should NOT be running head-first into battle with no armor and weapons whatsoever. Yeah, okay, Adriane carries a mace. But she has no armor and there's guards everywhere. She shouldn't be running head-first into battle to get herself killed in 2 hits. And what was with the beggar thinking he's a guard? And then there was Amren, well, okay. He's wearing some sort of Leather Armor, and he's a warrior of sorts. Yeah, okay, he should actually try and fight the mobs.

I've seen this many times, shopkeepers attacking dragons, etc.

It is incredibly annoying and it is one of the #1 reasons I will not play an Elder Scrolls game on Console -- no Console Commands to undo the ridiculous damage that was done by poor AI.

Also....

A little note about these "DLC Town Attacks"....

1). Why would vampires attack in broad daylight?
2). Why in-town around lots of NPCs? Why not have them ambush you out in the wild?
3). I don't feel like having to do the DLCs first just to avoid these annoyances.

Thanks for your time.

I know that this is your first post, and you're new, but is that an excuse for not reading anything?

On my first post, I managed to post in the correct topic without an issue. And that's not worth bragging about.

I'll report this so a mod sticks it in the right place. :)
