Question for xbox players

Post » Tue Apr 02, 2013 2:59 am

I was playing skyrim today and something reminded me about the Kinect. Now I've had a kinect since before skyrim was released and when the patch came out that let us use kinect controls i played around with it a for like a week but then never really used again so i was wondering, do any of you Xbox users still use Kinect in skyrim and how useful is it really?

I did use the Kinnect a little bit, and some of the time saving details like bringing up the map I liked.
But I stopped using Kinnect when I found I could not use powers only Shouts.

If you're not self-conscious about the vocalizing of commands (I am :P) then it is quite useful, imo. You can accomplish more, more effectively, using it.

I used it for about a week. Though it got annoying that whenever I or my TV made a noise, it'd flash in the corner of the screen that it did not recognise what I was saying. And that got very irritable.

Worst of all though is when it DOES recognise something when you don't even mean it to. Fus'ing your dining room table or the Jarl by mistake gets really annoying.

Yup, its called a headset with a microphone, coupled with some freeware voice command software. Its been around for over a decade.

It is. It was cool using my voice to shout for like 5 minutes before I scrapped it. The organization of the inventory was nice though, but I can live without it.

So it was a gimmick.

Yeah it kinda was, I actually made a good natured attempt to use it for weapon switching, menu functions etc but eventually I gave up and disabled it.
The npc dialogue getting picked up and triggering new saves was what made me kill it.

I appreciate the gesture from Beth, it being free an' all but in the end it was a pretty throwaway feature.
I also felt that kinect shouts actually made it a less immersive experience.

I used it until the 8 year old figured out it recognized his voice as well as mine. He usually used the fire breath shout just as I was getting ready to turn in a quest or something. *sigh*

I used it for a little while when it was patched in. It's alright. It just depends on your environment noise wise. If you live in a noisy apartment like I do, it'll struggle to read your voice. Also, make sure you put your Kinect as far away from your speakers for your TV as possible, cuz the game sound can interfere with the Kinect's voice recognition.

Kinect is only good for certain games, I wouldn't waste it on Skyrim.

I found it was actually pretty useful for quicksaves and for inventory sorting, but I could never get it to work very well for shouts or weapon swapping.

I play much more on PC than xbox anyway.

XD I never got the hang of the kinect controls, and it was annoying the roommates that I was yelling, and I didn't feel like keeping a cheat sheet of the shouts, and every time I would, it would mistake that I was asking for a save...
I just went back to using the normal controls...
