leveling skills with 'the book'

Post » Tue Apr 02, 2013 6:56 am

my friend has just used 'the book' too level himself all the way and put all his skills at 100, now I have 'the book' but i've always shied away from using it as I like the satisfaction of doing it myself.. my mate insists that he still enjoys his save as much as before but I cant see it so I just wanted to know if you've used 'the book' and if so did you still enjoy your game or did it become a kill joy for you?

Great question??? I used the book on my first character thought it was cool... Started my second character a month later WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Way more fun NOT to cheat with the book! Better to really role play this game the way Bethesda wanted us too. I am still playing my second character going on months now and I just love it, never again will I use cheats.

It's no use asking other people this when deciding what to do yourself. If you feel troubled by doing it, and like the fun has been svcked out of your game, then don't do it. If it increases your enjoyment ten fold, then do it. You can only do what is right for you, and let your friend do what is right for him. He can insist it's still fun all he wants - for him it is, but it might not be for you.

Oh, you'll definitely want to use it. That's the only way to avoid the painful iron dagger grinding to level up smithing. But nevermind that, this exploit is getting patched anyway.

Do it before the patch if you want to try it. You won't be able to do it soon.

I have a character how i have used this on, simply because that plus the DB add-on is a good way to experiment with higher level skills, and then reset all your perks so you can try out a different set of skills. Which is useful to help decide what perks you want to take with you main character. The character is still in interesting to play with as your fighting top level enemies and since your experimenting with new ways to play the fights can be challenging. However the drive to level skills further is one of the main reasons i enjoy games like Skyrim, so i can never play that character for long. As such i wouldn't recommend using for your main character.
However with patch 1.9 a day or two away (most probably) this glitch has been fixed so if you intend to do it, do it now.
If you do decide to do it, then you can always make you skills legendary of patch 1.9, which means you should be fighting top level enemies with level 25 skills, again it should be interesting.

it was a general question buddy to get a sight into what others have done and how thy feel bout it, I didn't ask to help me make my mind up, I will never use it as as I stated in the op I lik the satisfaction of doing ll the hard work myself.....

Iron daggers is the worst way to level Smithing since 1.6? It is based on the cost of the item being smithed. After that patch, it actually levels a lot quicker.

None the less, if one wishes to use the OI glitch, it is best they do it before 1.9 is released.

Personally, I have issue with using forced mechanical manipulation, in the first place. You have no idea what it is doing to the game and one risks corrupting saves, bloating and who knows what.

Furthermore, I'd feel way too dirty to commit to such.

ive never used it, and probably never will (thanks patch 1.9). personally i see no point to using it unless its on a throwaway save, using glitches and exploits pretty much ruins characters for me and i have yet to continue playing one after ive used one... and the most ive glitched out any character was using the dawnstar chest to get some better gear

i find that legit characters hold way more value than glitched ones and really you are only cheating yourself by skipping content

I have no issue grinding iron daggers to get my smithing up hell I spent 2 nights last week litrally going between whitrun, riften and riverwood (fast travel between the 3 in that order is enough time for the stocks to replenish) getting ingots to make daggers just to get my smithing to level 60 from 50 lol

Please do tell your secrets. I've heard that crafting jewelry is a good way to go, but gold ingots and gems aren't found in large amounts.

No matter how quickly it may level up the smithing skill, you'll need a relevant amount of raw materials to get it all the way to 100.

Well... you just scared me now. I haven't noticed any issues so far, but I hope nothing will come up. And I have no idea why this part of the post is appearing bolded.

iron daggers is definitely THE SINGLE worst way to level up smithing, either transmute iron to gold and make jewelry if you have access to the spell OR my personaly favorite... raid dwemer ruins for dwarven metal(which there will be [censored] tons of it just lying around) and make dwarven bows.. at around skill 80 this method will slow down but from there you should have plenty of ebony stocked up and you can move onto ebony bows

the rate at which your skill goes up is directly equated with the value of items you make, therefore the more expensive stuff you can make the better, i'd make a suit of iron armor over 4 iron daggers anyday

It's more of an issue for those who've made many characters. Going through that once or twice is fine, but after that you feel like "Oh man, not again..."

The most efficient way is to harvest the abundance of Dwemer materials and smelt them into ingots. Dwemer Bows are a favored choice. They yield the a great bang for the buck. Then you get to Ebony Bows. There is a plateau you hit where improving stops working to ones advantage. i can't remember the exact details of it.

None the less, it is easier than before. Certainly not taking several days to do it...lol

EDIT : Ahhh...ninj'd. :D

So many grammar mistakes. Also, is it so hard to write Oghma Infinium?
